A new nationwide survey by the Barna Group among people who voted in the election reveals the role of faith had substantial influence on the election and upon people's perspectives regarding the state of the nation and its future.

Perspectives
Well, the Super Bowl is over and now no football until next fall. People do love the game. This super bowl was the highest rated Super Bowl of all time and a close game. It kept everyone's interest all the way to the last minute of the game. Was the last play an uncatchable pass or pass interference? Much discussion, and it seems everyone has a different perspective. Kinda like those marital "discussions."  Both have different perspectives and expectations. The important thing is to work hard at understanding the other's perspective and work hard to strengthen the relationship even as you go through the crisis. Marriage is a great place to practice forgiveness and faithfulness. Much learning comes from the "discussions." You can avoid one discussion if you don't forget that Valentine's Day is coming. It would be a great time, from my perspective, to express your love and appreciation to that one closest to you. Vicki and I are actually getting away for a short vacation that week. We scheduled those few days off months ago and it's a good thing. We'd probably be too busy to go, but we must, and should go. Put it in your calendar that you now have an appointment on February 14 that you can't miss. Plan ahead to give a little gift, both men and women. Applaud any gift and effort you receive, and remember, it is "better to give than receive." (Acts 20:35) Back to the Super Bowl. The biggest discussion? The power outage, which reminds me of our power outage at last year's Annual Meeting!! We are in good company. And speaking of our Annual meeting, this year's event should be worthwhile and inspiring. I strongly encourage you to make every attempt to attend. After your Valentine's Day, don't miss our Annual Meeting!!

Small Church Conference Surprise Gift
TM (Transformation Ministries) invited our CB churches to their Mustard Seed Conference designed especially for small churches. Six people from CB churches joined about seventy-five people who attended the two-day event on Monday and Tuesday, February 4-5 at South Shores Church
in Dana Point. Not only were the participants encouraged by the phenomenal seminars led by Dane Aaker, the pastor from Centerpoint Church in Colton, but they also received a free two-year subscription to Floodgate Productions, which allows them free access to all the downloads on this site, a significant value for their churches. This is a valuable site for all churches. CB Pastor Perry White who came all the way from our Sierra Baptist Church in Independence, CA said, the conference was, "well worth the 5-hour drive."
Successful "The Epitome" Youth Event

On January 21, the Norwalk Missionary Baptist Church, partnering with CBSC, held their 3rd annual 2-hour youth concert event called "The Epitome" at Montebello Christian Fellowship. They rejoiced with the approximately 150 young people who attended and filled the sanctuary with music and worship. At least three individuals recommitted their lives to God. The youth committee plans to hold the event again next year.

Valley Bible New Location Finalized
Valley Bible had their own unexpected journey in 2012. Looking for a new location, in the spring they sold their building and in June they moved into the San Marcos Middle School during the escrow process. They had hoped escrow would be done by the end of summer, but complications made them start looking for another building. They soon found a great building close to their original location. On December 21, 2012, they finally closed escrow and recorded Title on their new church property located at 2111 Industrial Ct., Vista, CA. Within this 13,725 square foot facility with tremendous visibility facing the 78 highway corridor, and next to numerous and sprawling residential developments, their ministries and administrative offices will be housed and positioned to impact lives for the Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Hugh McMenamin writes, "All of the glory for this incredible blessing goes to our great God and Father which we consider an honor to have received from His gracious hand. We anticipate having our first Sunday worship service in early February!"
Encouraging Leadership Couples' Retreat
In January, ministry couples gathered together at the beautiful Saddleback Retreat Center for a time of refreshment, rest and inspiration during the CB Leadership Couples' Retreat. Gregory and Ruth Hooper were among the group and said, "the retreat was perfect and exactly what we needed." Highlights included a morning focus on "resting in God" during which we actually took time to relax and get alone with God, enjoying a warm morning. Another highlight was a question and answer time with David Chrzan, chief of staff at Saddleback Church. He took over one hour to answer all of the questions our group asked, covering a multitude of topics. Well worth the time.
History Channel "The Bible" mini-series
The Bible is an epic five-week, 10-hour television mini-series premiering March 3, 2013 on the History Channel from Emmy Award winning husband and wife team, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. For two hours each Sunday night millions of viewers will see the Bible from Genesis to Revelation come to life in a way never before seen. The final episode of the series will air on Easter Sunday and will feature the death and resurrection of Jesus. Outreach Inc. has resources to take advantage of this experience.
Sun City First Baptist Resignation
Pastor Scott Anderson of the First Baptist Church in Sun City has resigned as Senior Pastor and his last Sunday was December 30. Scott served at First Baptist for a total of 15 years, 8 years as the senior pastor and 7 years as the assistant pastor. He oversaw the building of a new sanctuary that was added to the campus in the late 2000's. We appreciate Scott and Tamera's time and investment into the lives of those at Sun City FBC and wish God's blessings upon them.
Sandy Relief Efforts Continue
After hurricane Sandy hit the
coastal towns of NYC and NJ, CB churches responded with immediate aid in wonderful ways. Many collected needed resources including clothes, food and money. Others were able to send immediate hands-on help. Some teams even focused on making hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to help feed people displaced from their homes.

Tory Ruark from DELTA Ministries reports that the need has now shifted from immediate food and clothing distribution to sending teams to help rebuild both of these areas. Tory will work with you to sort through all the details of a trip if you are interested in bringing a mission team to assist. He can be reached at 520.404.0841. Also visit DELTA's website to learn more.

Talbot Class on Multi-Ethnic Churches
Gary McIntosh, along with Dr. Alan McMahan, are going to be leading a brand new D.Min cohort on Multi-ethnic Church Ministry starting June 2013 at Talbot School of Theology at Biola University. As the United States is becoming more multi-ethnic, churches and pastors are responding by building multi-ethnic churches, but it is a big challenge. They are taking applications now.  More information here
