If you are new to the Kort Report, I welcome you to my newsletter. If you have already been a subscriber then I thank you for remaining interested in the work I do.
I am looking forward to hosting two talk at my clinic, Center for Relationship and Sexual Health. First is Sadistic Love by Deborah Mueller who will explore the darker side of BDSM when it goes wrong and looks very differently from Shades of Gray.
Then for the first time at the Center we are lucky to have my colleague, Sally Palaian talk to clinicians and non-clinicians about money disorders and how to treat them for individuals and couples. She has a book titled, Spent, that you can purchase in the link below in the write up about the talk.
Also, I recommend giving the gift of an IMAGO Relationship Therapy weekend workshop to you and your partner this Valentine's Day which I am hosting in February. I love doing these workshops and seeing the couples make so much progress in just two days. I always say it is like giving your relationship a penicillin shot giving it a boost to heal.  There is a lot of controversy these days about pornography and I try to stay on top of all the news about it. Some of it is good research, some of it is junk science and some of it is just people's projections and subjective feelings about how they feel about porn.
I found this TED talk on the internet titled, "Can Porn Make You Engage in Sex You Don't Want?" and thought it would be good to share.

YBOP suggests a time out from porn and for some a time out from masturbation. These researchers say, "But that really depends on circumstances and whether they have ED or DE, or low libido. We report what works for guys who have successfully gone through this process. We then freed it back to the public. I add the science. But we have no program, and every guy has unique circumstances."
I am constantly getting referrals and emails from guys with severe porn addictions and porn-induced sexual problems. The vast majority of the porn problem population are young and single. The researchers do not advocate abstinence once they feel "rebooted". Instead they suggest guys masturbate on a schedule that works for them." The scientific claims for YBOP shares are simple addiction neurobiology that is being explored today.

Sex Tips For Straight Women from a Gay Man |
I purchased this book originally in the 1990's and rediscovered it recently as it has been revised. I saw it being recommended to and read by Merryl Streep in the recent movie Hope Springs.

 This presentation originated with my colleague Tammy Nelson in which we have present together and do workshops on how the internet use of porn and chat impacts the lives of individuals and couples.
I will be presenting this myself in my office in Royal Oak and will discuss how to help couples face the crisis when one partner discovers that the other is secretly using pornography or connecting to potential partners online. We will explore its significance to the user and define limits. Finally, we'll talk about helping the spouses develop empathy and validation, ultimately creating a more differentiated sex life.
