  MY HAWAIIAN UNCLES
Sending out a tribute to my Hawaiian uncles for Father's Day.

Last month, my story was about my Hawaiian aunties.
This month, it's the kane's turn!

My mother is the youngest of 12 and represents the Hawaiian/Chinese side of my family. As you can imagine, there was always some party going on at some relatives house every weekend and there was lots of "kanikapila" time (playing music)!

I remem
ber my Uncle Raymond playing slack key guitar, and Uncle Alan playing on a homemade bass made out of a washtub or "plangana", a broom stick and cord.  Everyone brought their own instruments - ukulele's, guitars, food and of course one or two cases of PRIMO beer.

My uncles could really SING!  I bet their music could have been on a record album if they had chosen to become professional musicians. Uncle Alan was a pretty big guy and was a member of a trio called "1,000 POUNDS OF MUSIC".

I miss those good old days - when there was plenty of music, lots of good food and plenty of love all around.

Happy Father's Day! ~  Myron
