Earn Your Sticker
Next Tuesday is Election Day. While there won't be the red, white, and blue fanfare that we experience during presidential elections, it is still so important that you take a few minutes to vote. You will be voting for our Mayor and City Council Members, which are very important positions in our community.
Since local elections are pretty low key, voters often get the impression that the elections aren't important - but nothing could be further from the truth. While the President certainly impacts us, our local leaders have a much more direct effect on me, you, and this community.
All Grinnell residents will vote at Drake Community Library next Tuesday. You may vote any time between noon at 8pm. It won't take more than a few minutes of your time, but your one vote could truly make a difference.
In Grinnell, incumbent Gordon Canfield is on the ballot for mayor. For city council, incumbent Bryon Heiftle-Worley is the only candidate for Council member at large. Council member Jo Wray is the only candidate for 2nd Ward while Incumbent Sondra Burnell is the only candidate for the 4th Ward seat.
I know what you are thinking. You think it's pointless to vote when races are uncontested. That's just not true. There may only be one choice printed directly on the ballot, but there's also the option to cast a write-in vote. In an election where there are typically so few votes cast, just a handful of write-ins can win it. So you do have a choice. Your vote matters.
Find the time on Tuesday and earn that "I Voted" sticker.
