This week is Small Business Week, so we want to thank all of the small businesses who make up Grinnell. Small business owners are a crucial part of our economy. Small businesses create around 70% of jobs in the U.S. according to a report released by the Small Business Administration. If you add in solopreneurs and the growing freelancing movement, the numbers are even larger.
These small business owners inspire us at the same time they are building our economy. Small business owners, we thank you for:
- Knowing that following your dream is priceless. We know making that dream a reality can actually be very expensive.
- Working 80 hours to avoid working 40 for someone else. Owning a small business often means working around the clock. Even when your business is closed, you're working on ways to improve it, market it, and serve your customers better.
- Defying the odds. It's much easier to work for someone else, but you chose to go down a different path.
- Setting an example and carrying on tradition. Small businesses are very important to small towns like ours. Our community wouldn't be a very vibrant place if all our small businesses went away.
- Having the courage to try something new. You wear many hats and are always learning something new, trying to stay on top of products, sales, marketing, technology, human resources, etc. You go out of your comfort zone to experiment with new ideas for your business.
Small business owners, know that your efforts do not go unnoticed. You work hard for you and your family, but you also keep the dreams of future business owners burning bright, you maintain a quality of life for our community, and you set an example for our children. Thank you.
Head over to our Facebook page and share your love of small businesses today. Tag one of your favorite small businesses in the comments and list one thing you think people should know about them. Click here to add your comments.
