School building project

In the spring of 2013, a task force was formed to develop the Grinnell-Newburg School District's first long-range facility plan. Building on the work of this task force, the school board came to the conclusion that our current facilities no longer serve the community's needs.

They identified two chief areas of concern. First, Grinnell's student population is shrinking. At the preschool through fourth grade levels, this means that we are spending more and more money to maintain schools that are serving fewer students. Second, they concluded that for a variety of reasons our current school buildings do not allow our faculty and staff to do their jobs as effectively as possible.

The school board has voted to construct a preschool through fifth grade elementary school on the current middle school site and to repurpose an existing building on 11th Avenue to house a new sixth through eighth grade middle school.

A public vote on the bond referendum for this project will take place April 7. Please take the time to learn more before it comes time to vote in April. You will find much more information about the project, including frequently asked questions, at GrinnellTigerBond.org.
