More Muscle
I really need your help. I was thinking about how we can get more muscle behind our small business retailers and restaurant on the social media front. The next time you are delighted by a business in town, would you do at least one of the following?  Ten gold stars if you do them all.

So much inquiry is done by mobile phones that it will even increase Interstate awareness of our community. I wonder if we couldn't get a contest going. I know you love so many of our businesses, so let's help them grow by telling a few million people. Please, I know it takes time but your favorites will be so very grateful and it will go a long way toward growing our local economy. Here are ten ideas to get you started:
  1. Search for them on Facebook and like their page
  2. Follow them on twitter
  3. Endorse the owner on LinkedIn.
  4. Use the check-in function on your phone when you are at that business
  5. Share your local experiences on your social media so your friends see where you shop and eat...you may remind them of a place they haven't been in a while or help them to discover new things about a business.
  6. Tag businesses in any of your statuses/tweets about them.
  7. Interact with businesses by sharing and commenting on their posts. They love your feedback and it helps increase the reach of their posts.
  8. Post a selfie with the new shoes you bought or that delicious ice cream you're enjoying.
  9. Post a review on Trip Advisor, Facebook, Angie's List, Yelp, Google Reviews/Local/Places/+, Yahoo! Local Listings, Insider Pages, City Search, or Consumer Search.
  10. Use hastags to tag business names plus add in #grinnelliowa and #getintogrinnell
What am I forgetting? I'll keep reminding you to do these things. It really will make a difference. Thank you.

P.S. Save the date for a brand new Fright Hike event taking place Oct. 24 and 31 at Arbor Lake in Grinnell, hosted by our young professional group Grinnell Connect. More information to come next week. Start working on those costumes!
