My Favorite Project
My favorite project of the year has to be the new duplex at the corner of East St. and 6th Ave, called Cooper Corner. They took a seriously blighted, unsafe dwelling (understatement) and replaced it with something beautiful and new, adding two fabulous housing units to our community.

The Lang family looked at the housing study we did and identified a big opportunity in the town home market. It is just so cool. One side is three bedrooms and one side is two bedrooms.

Removal of blight, especially on a main corridor into town cannot be underestimated. It helped the property value of homes around it, gives another in-communter or newcomer a place to live and passersby don't have to look at a broken down, unkept house.

When I'm taking new people on community tours, it is down right embarrassing to have a burned out old building on my route, this one impossible to avoid on 6th. Hats of to the Lang family for your commitment to Grinnell, and to quality housing. I toured it today and it is just awesome. Hard surface flooring, a garage, bay windows, nice appliances, everything first rate. They even include the snow removal and lawn care.

That makes 29 new quality units by local builders and building owners in just the last two years. Add to that the awesome Mayflower Community Watertower Square project now under construction with 26 fantastic retirement units for a total so far of 55 new units done or underway! Thank you so much for what you have done to help Grinnell grow.

P.S. All of the completed single family homes mentioned above have been sold. One new single family home is under construction on Reed St. across from Grinnell Regional Medical Center and will be available soon. Call Chuck Griffith to find out more about that one at 641-990-9555.  Want to rent the new Cooper Corner duplex on 6th? Call Curt at 563-210-3232. Interested in the Watertower Square project? Call Bob Mann at 641-236-6151 or Kevin Kolbe 641-236-3141. Interested in building your own home from scratch? Your local builders are now taking requests on spring builds.
