You Got Nothin'

There are a few cities in Iowa talking about  their new home construction incentives. The best one I could find is giving $10,000 if you build a new house there. I am ridiculously competitiveprotective and obsessive when it comes to Grinnell, but seriously our town beats every other town's incentives for new construction.

In Grinnell, we have 5 and 10 year tax abatements depending on where you build within city limits.

Let's use a $250,000 home as an example:

  • If you build it with Vanderlinden Construction at Prairie Point (up by Ahrens Park, NE corner of city) you would avoid $13,316 in taxes over 5 years.
  • If you build it with Innovative Construction (new green house on East Street) or Van Ersvelde Construction (new tan house on East St) by the Middle School, you would also avoid $13,316 over 5 years.
  • If you build it with Beck Construction on Davis Avenue you would save a whopping $48,295 on a $250,000 home over 10 years.
  • If you build it with Griffith Construction on Reed Street across from the hospital (there is one built and almost ready to buy there), again you would save $48,295 over ten years on a $250,000 home!

This is the time to get your spring build scheduled with one of the contractors above. Between all of them, they have something in nearly every price range and style. This is a MAJOR initiative by the city to help more people live in Grinnell who want to, and it will hopefully ease the pressure on our rental housing stock. Email me and I will connect you with all of them. Get building, Grinnell!
