I asked Emily and Rachael what their favorite event is during the year. The Chamber organizes 10 major events throughout the year, not including the 52 Ambassador visits, 48 Farmers Markets, and 24 Grinnell Connect events.  Their answer was the same as my own: GRINNELL GAMES. This is a bit funny that is the staff's favorite because, although I counted Grinnell Games as one event of the 10, it is actually 8 events packed into three days. We are a little weird that way-our favorite is our most challenging, most grueling week of the year. But it is the most rewarding. Instead of wishing for it to be over, we can hardly wait to get it started. After so many months of planning, we are ready to say "lets do this!" (picture team huddles, high fives, etc). I am most excited for the trail run. Last year, because of flooding, we had to run out and back instead of all the way around the lake. Not this year! Participants will park their cars and then take a boat ride across the lake to the starting line. Is that cool or what?! Everyone with a boat at Rock Creek is helping ferry runners/walkers across. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I bet that's what it felt like when all the neighbors would show up to help put up your new barn! I hope you'll join us this weekend. You can sign up for any of the events all the way up until they start, but it is much easier to do it in advance at grinnellgames.com. You can also see the full schedule of events and details online. It's finally here....let's do this.
Angela

P.S.  Thanks for showing up big at Friday Fest last Friday night. It was the largest attendance ever in five years of doing them. Big shout out to Grinnell school teachers and staff who showed up in force!

P.P.S. Some roads will be closed to traffic during Grinnell Games. The half marathon/5k route will be closed at 7:30 a.m. and reopened as soon as possible, but no later than 11 a.m. Click here to view the route map and plan an alternate route if needed for Saturday. The bike race will also affect some roads near the Mayflower Community on Saturday night from 3 to 9:30 p.m. Click here for the route map.
