I am so excited for
Friday Fest. I get to see so many people that I haven't seen since last summer! It's just a blast. For those of you who are reading this as residents, you know I take a HUGE amount of heat for all kinds of new initiatives. Three initiatives which have been crazy popular (probably why I love them so much) are are Friday Fest, Grinnell Games and the Central Park Skating Rink.
Tomorrow,
June 6, is our first Friday Fest of the year from 7 to 10 p.m. Standing Hampton headlines the music stage and the Galaxy will host the Kids Zone this year with all kinds of fun stuff for kids.

All three
Friday Fests are on Main Street this year (June 6, July 5, August 1). The street, unlike others, has enough power not to have to run a noisy generators; has a higher concentration of retail, restaurants and entertainment than other streets do; and has businesses on both sides of the street which lends itself to a natural perimeter which means less people needed to volunteer. And it has just been that kind of street for a very long time. Here are two pictures of gatherings on Main Street decades apart from each other. It's just always been the place to be in downtown Grinnell.

Go out to eat at a local restaurant tomorrow night, and then meet us on Main Street to finally finally celebrate summer.  I can't wait to see you tomorrow!
-Angela

P.S. We could really use all hands on deck for Grinnell Games next weekend. If you haven't already, would you consider volunteering for a shift? Take a look at the volunteer opportunities and easily sign up for a shift at grinnellgames.com/volunteers.
