Our 100% Challenge

We have issued a challenge in our office that each of us will

purchase 100% of our holiday gifts locally this year. And I challenge each of you reading this to do the same. We talk about shopping local all the time, but it really does matter and every little bit helps fuel our community.

Grinnell's stores are filled with gifts for everyone, whether you are looking for something pretty or practical. It might be convenient to go to the mall or order something off Amazon, but why do that when you can find more personalized, specialty gifts from businesses right here? Sure, you could go to Target and load up your cart with something for everyone in your family, but then they end up with the same exact gifts as a million other Americans. People say it is the thought that counts, so take some time to enjoy the shopping experience and actually find a really great gift for everyone on your list this year. And if you don't like shopping or don't have the time, then you'll be better off asking one of our expert business owners for help than you will be if you aimlessly wander the mall looking for something to buy.

There are about 6,000 of you who read this email each week. If all of you would pledge to spend just $50 more on gifts in Grinnell than you did last year, that's an additional $300,000 in retail sales. I bet many of you can increase your local spending by much more than that, but know that even $50 spent here instead of in Des Moines can make a big difference.

If you are looking for gift ideas, put Jingle Bell Holiday on your calendar (Nov. 22) because merchants will be open late and it's a great time to get ideas and start buying gifts. If you are looking for a specific gift, or wondering what stores might have something for a certain person on your list, please email me. I would love to help you find it. Let's take the time to shop Grinnell businesses for meaningful gifts for our loved ones this year.
