Join us for our opening event on social media and the cyber-society

For the new academic year, we are pleased to announce a typically diverse and engaging programme of events on issues of contemporary importance.

Prof Eric Heinze will deliver the inaugural Max Watson Memorial Lecture

In our Max Watson Memorial Lecture later next month, Prof Eric Heinze from Queen Mary University London will argue that, rather than punishing all forms of hate speech, modern democracies have better ways of safeguarding vulnerable groups without compromising principles of free expression.

Supreme Courts under the spotlight
Expert analysis of influential Supreme Court rulings in China and Pakistan

In China, the Supreme Court has endorsed recommendations by the Head of the FLJS programme on Consumer Rights in China, Dr Ying Yu. 

Dr Yu's proposals to improve the rights of over a billion consumers were published in full by the court, in what Dr Yu describes as "a critical moment for the Chinese government to offer an effective consumer redress scheme, which could contribute to both economic and political stability."
