EC Honorary Director General exposes 'false arguments' on Scotland and the EU Graham Avery and Profs Keating and Douglas-Scott debate the issues
Honorary Director General of the EU Graham Avery was joined by Professors Michael Keating and Siobhan Douglas-Scott last month to assess the possibility of an independent Scotland joining the EU, and the implications for Europe as a whole.
Mr Avery argued that the Scottish referendum could have significant consequences for a so-called 'Brexit' of the UK from the EU, saying: "The loss of 5 million predominantly pro-European Scottish voters from the UK would make it significantly more likely that British voters would choose to leave the EU, should a referendum be held".

Policy Briefs propose new approaches to EC policy on gender equality Equality experts tackle gender imbalance on corporate boards
In June, we published new proposals to tackle gender imbalances in the workplace by leading gender equality experts Jude Browne, Director of the University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies, and Julie Suk, Professor of Law at the Cardozo School of Law, New York.
The authors analyse the blanket 40% quota for female directors of publicly listed companies that the European Commission is considering imposing across the EU, and propose alternative measures that broaden the benefits of such gender-based policies.
