WTMO's local newscast, Telenoticias Orlando, took home the coveted award in the Health and Sciences category for "Vida en Medio de la Muerte." In a collaboration between Homan Machuca, Gilberto Companioni, Axel Figueroa and Ramon Cintron, the special piece followed the perils of a child who suffered from ventricular fibrillation, a life-threatening heart condition. After collapsing one day and being on the brink of death, local doctors performed a rare procedure on the boy's heart that helped keep him alive. This was the first time that such a procedure was performed on a child in Florida. View the EMMY-award winning story on www.holaciudad.com.
"This is a great accomplishment for our Telenoticias Orlando team. The EMMY Awards represent the highest recognition in the television industry and are judged and voted on by our peers. That makes this honor much more gratifying, fulfilling, and special," commented Gilberto Companioni, Telemundo Orlando News Director. "These awards symbolize the commitment to the excellence we owe our viewers on a daily basis."
The station's newscast, Telenoticias Orlando, is the #1 source for Spanish-language news in the Orlando DMA at 11pm. In the most recent October survey, Telemundo Orlando delivered more than half of the Spanish TV audience in all major demos including adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers (P2+).
