UT Environmental Science Institute's Hot Science - Cool Talk

This September's talk on Friday, September 12, from 5:45 - 8:15 p.m. is by David Laude, Professor of Chemistry and Sr. Vice Provost at The University of Texas at Austin. He is tired of everyone taking three steps back every time he tells them he is a chemist. Chemistry is easy. He will demonstrate how a few simple, recurring ideas in chemistry can help you understand concepts like climate change, how batteries work, and how food is made. Keep Calm and Java On - free courses for teaching CS

The Texas Regional Collaboratives at UT Austin, in partnership with Oracle Academy , and TCEA, is offering a free series of courses for Texas teachers interested in teaching computer science. The series of professional development experiences will prepare participants to teach courses such as Computer Science I, Computer Science II, or AP Computer Science. Science projects are no longer just about poster boards and papier-m�ch� volcanoes. With prestigious competitions like the Google Science Fair and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, millions of entrepreneurial students are showcasing their talents and gaining national recognition for their work. From bioplastics made from banana peels to new treatments against influenza, today's science projects by children and teenagers have turned into life-changing ideas.

LearnToMod, an educational add-on to Minecraft teaches players the basics of programming while creating tricks and tools that they can use within the game. The mod will be available to the general public in October and its creators hope it will help turn Minecraft into a kind of gateway drug for computer programming.

DigiGirlz
DigiGirlz is a Microsoft YouthSpark program that gives high school girls the opportunity to learn about careers in technology, connect with Microsoft employees, and participate in hands-on computer and technology workshops.

Google Groups
These groups are all about sharing resources, information, events, volunteers, needs, and more with others reaching out to K12 students aiming to excite them about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
