Conferences, Events, Contests & More
El Paso STEM Fiesta
Join the Workforce Solutions of Upper Rio Grande on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 for the STEM Fiesta! This event will showcase technology and role models to inspire youth, create awareness of opportunities in STEM Education and careers, and provide scholarships to high school students! STEM Fiesta is targeting 5,000 youth with the state recognized STEM CHALLENGE, robotics, gaming and IT competitions, innovative exhibitors and STEM workshops. Register online!

The Texas Tribune presents a daylong symposium, in partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas, on major issues in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields in Texas. Topics of discussion will include teacher training, workforce development, changes to the state's curriculum and graduation requirements, and innovations in classroom technology.  RSVP to attend today!

 

 

Knowles Science Teaching Foundation 2015 Teaching Fellowships

Valued at approximately $150,000, the prestigious five-year Fellowships are awarded to early-career teachers who are committed to teaching science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) in high schools nationwide. The application deadline is 12 a.m. PST on October 29, 2014. "The KSTF Teaching Fellowship Program offers access to a network of professionals dedicated to a common cause-improving math and science education," said Nicole Gillespie, KSTF's Executive Director. "The program has been refined and improved over the past decade, and is highly effective at retaining the most promising beginning teachers, supporting them to become leaders and change agents in the profession." Save the date and submit proposals for CAST 2014 

Save the date: The Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching (CAST) 2014 will be November 20-22nd at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX. Early Bird Registration will be open August 15 - October 1 at $125. STAT is calling on all presenters to share their lesson plans and lessons learned with science teachers from across the state of Texas. CAST is an excellent opportunity to present, network with your peers and share knowledge. Join us at CAST 2014 as a presenter by submitting your proposal online.

 

 

Submit your project to the Google Science Fair
The Google Science Fair is an online science competition open to students ages 13 to 18 from around the globe. It encourages them to change the world through scientific inquiry. They'll learn about their chosen topic and develop key skills along the way. Submissions are due May 13th! Get started and submit your project today!

To help create a community of K-12 STEM Outreach providers, supporters, educators and organizations, regional listservs have been created.  These groups are all about sharing resources, information, events, volunteers, needs, and more with others reaching out to K12 students aiming to excite them about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  Join whichever group(s) make sense for you and start collaborating, connecting, communicating and sharing!

 

For those not in one of these areas who still want to receive information going out to all groups, join the Texas K-12 STEM Outreach group.

The Texas Girls Collaborative Project (TxGCP) connects organizations and individuals across Texas committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The TxGCP is excited to provide opportunities across Texas for collaboration, networking, sharing of best practices, and leveraging of resources through in-person forums, email listservs and mini-grants.
