Saint Peter's Church
May 22-June 1, 2014
News & Notes

Dear Faithful People of Saint Peter's:

The Holy Spirit is front and center in all our praying and praising through these next three weeks as the white blossom of Easter reddens into the red fullness of Pentecost.

High on our list of prayers for the guidance of the Holy Spirit are these people:

  • Our Bishop Robert A. Rimbo as, next week, he seeks affirmation in the election processes of our synod assembly next week, May 29-31, 2014 so that he can lead us in the completion of our synod's strategic vision.
  • Maria Del Toro as she seeks a second term as our synod's Vice President so that, with our bishop, she can lead us to the completion of our strategic vision.
  • The voting members of our synod assembly especially Terry Rochford and Watson Bosler, our elected voting members, Jackie Mize-Baker, voting as an associate in ministry, Maria Del Toro and  Christopher Vergara, voting members of our Synod Council and pastors Jonathan Linman, Dale Lind, Bill Eschen, Jared Stahler and me, voting as rostered clergy.
  • Our Vicar Carol Schneider, along with our member, Vicar Nicholas Sollom and our friend Vicar Katie Pocalyko as they prepare to meet their candidacy committees and become certified candidates for ordination to the ministry of Word and Sacrament.
  • Member of our Parish Council John Keogh as he prepares to enter seminary.
  • Our members Joe Brewer, Nancy Rakoczy and Chanda Rule as they complete another year of seminary.

High on our list of praises for gifts of the Holy Spirit are:

  • Pastor Dale R. Lind as he celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination.
  • The members of our parish who continue to serve on various boards for the wider ministry of the Church:
    • Dennis Frado, Lutheran Office for World Community, ELCA and LWF staff;
    • Geronimo Desumala and Jennifer Eberhart, World Council of Churches staff;
    • Jackie Mize-Baker,   International Rescue Committee staff;
    • Kathy Schmidt and Jonathan Linman, assistants to the bishop;
    • Maria Del Toro, synod Vice President, and Christopher Vergara, member of our synod council and Executive Committee
    • Ed Wagner, chair of the synod's Financial Management Committee.
    • Susan Bell, Watson Bosler and Arthur Clark, members of Seafarers and International House board.
    • Rene Chapman, member of Lutheran Social Services Board.
  • Dale Christensen, Chancellor of General Theological Seminary and member, Lutheran Medical Center (Brooklyn) board.
  • Dorothy Goldman, member of the Momentum board.
  • Carolyn Wagner and me, members of Wartburg board.

Congratulations to Peter Christensen, son of Dale Christensen and Patricia Hewitt, who has earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University and will be awarded that degree next week!

As we enter into these coming weeks focused on the Holy Spirit, please remember all these servants of Christ's Church in your prayers.

COMMUNION BREAD BAKING 101
Betty Jackson will host a gluten-free bread baking extravaganza on Tuesday, May 27 at 7PM in the Kitchen Warming Pantry. If you've ever though about volunteering to bake communion bread, please come to this event! Gluten-free baking is not as intimidating as it sounds. Betty will walk you through the process and share some tips--and talk about a plan for baking on a more regular basis. Bring a rolling pin (and an apron, if you'd like) -- everything else will be provided. Bread baked at this evening will be used for the 2014 Synod Assembly. (Bread bakers from other churches will be at this event, too!)

SAVE THE DATE

 Interested in participating?  Contact Wayne Britton by June 16 to lend your talents.
