BEST PUBLIC LIBRARIES AROUND TOWN

For booklovers tall and short, local libraries can be quiet places to read and explore. They also offer story time hours, help with homework, and access to technology. Here are some of the best options around Los Angeles that will feed your curious appetite for all things literary and historical!

LOS ANGELES PUBLIC LIBRARY

CENTRAL LIBRARY

630 W. 5TH ST.

213-228-7000

This architectural gem located in downtown has it's own Children's Literature Department. Both massive and beautiful, you can browse through the collection while admiring the murals depicting early California history. They offer a computer zone, story times, puppet shows, and music all in warm, richly decorated environment, complete with baskets of books and cuddly stuffed animals. Consider taking the Red Line Subway from Culver City to Pershing Square and make it a complete adventure.

LA84 FOUNDATION SPORTS LIBRARY

2141 W. ADAMS BLVD.

323-730-4646

This is the place to go if you are interested in sports of all kinds. The Foundation, named in honor of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, houses an extensive library of sports information ranging from oral histories of past Olympians to collections of Sports Illustrated and Women's Sports & Fitness.

SANTA MONICA PUBLIC LIBRARY

601 SANTA MONICA BLVD

310-458-8600

In an architectural building known for it's sustainable living design both inside and outside, the children's section of the library offers a wide range of books and resources, and an activity room where kids can enjoy story times, author readings and Lego's. Check out your books, then, have a bite at their café and enjoy the California sunshine in their beautiful courtyard!

SOUTH PASADENA PUBLIC LIBRARY

1414 MISSION ST.

626-403-7200

The South Pasadena Public Library has teamed up with the Pasadena Humane Society and their monthly Barks and Books program allows children between five and ten years old to read an animal-related short story to dogs from the Humane Societies Companion Animal Program. Rotating events for kids include: theater classes, Lego building, and art classes.

Birthday Books

Our librarian Mrs. Jaffe is excited to announce The Birthday Book Club. This year in honor of your child's birthday, buy a book for the school library. A bookplate dedicated to your child will be put inside the cover page.

The book you choose from the Library Wish List will be a gift for all Pali students to enjoy for years to come.  You and your child can choose a book together at the library.

Or you can buy Amazon scrip, give it to Mrs. Jaffe and she will choose a book in your child's honor.  THANK YOU for joining us in making our library the best for our kids!

New Parent Party

New Parents, Please make sure to RSVP to the Evite that was sent to you ASAP so we can get a headcount. We hope you can make it on September 6, at 6 PM. Thanks to the Sugarmans for hosting and to La Vecchia Cucina and Shore Bar for their donations to the party.
Scrip is Here!

Scrip team will be available the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month - starting tomorrow!  Get your orders in now.  Scrip is a store gift card program that raises funds for PEP at no additional cost to families. Clean Out Your Closet

Check out our newest fundraising opportunity.  Schoola Stitch raises money for our school by selling gently-used, brand name children's clothing online. We donate the clothes and Schoola does the rest.

Just sign up HERE and request a bag. That day Schoola sends you a free postage-paid collection bag to fill with gently-used name brand children's clothing. UPS picks it up free of charge, and...Bingo! You've just helped PEP raise funds and cleaned out your kid's closet. Once Schoola receives the donations they sort it and sell it and give up to 40% of the proceeds to Palisades Charter Elementary. On average, they are seeing between $30-50 per bag of clothes - some bags chock full of clothes could raise as much as $150.
