Principal's Message
Dear Parents, May 4, 2013
Open House: Open House: Last Thursday's Open House was an amazing evening for our school. The rooms were filled with exemplary student work adorning the walls and desks as our children proudly shared this year's accomplishments with their parents. The teachers at Palisades Elementary School are fabulous and walking through the classrooms proved it once again. The Lori Petrick garden's Art Cadre installation of Monet's Garden was superb. Our gratitude goes to all the teachers involved and to Debra Demontreux and Sal Kelly for their love, time and imagination in the creation of this unbelievable installation. In fact, a big thank you goes to everyone who attended Open House, including all the dedicated and loving parents who showed such enthusiasm. It was really something special!
Walkathon: Last Friday, May 3 was our Walk-a-Thon! The kids had so much fun walking with their friends while contributing to their school. So please help them get their walking pledges turned in. Thank you again to all of the parents who showed up to cheer on everybody. Special thanks go to the organizers Liz Denham and Sage Grady for such a successful and fabulous event.
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week: Without the spectacular group of teachers and staff that we have, Palisades Elementary would not be the outstanding school that it is today. If you haven't managed to find the right time, this week of May 6 - 10 is the perfect opportunity to say "Thank You"! Give our teachers and staff the smiles and the confidence in them that you know they deserve. Please make an effort during this special week!
Principal's Coffee and Chat: This Monday, May 6 at 8:30 am. in the auditorium, we will be having a discussion with the incoming kindergarten parents, however all are welcome.
Parent Outreach Committee Speaker Series: Dr. Barbara Moreno, teacher and child and family therapist, will lead two groups this Monday, May 6 in the STAR room at 8:30 am. Also, please join her for the "Bright Start" sessions on two Fridays, May 10th and 17th. Dr. Barbara Moreno will lead group discussions focused on a review and follow-up to her series in the fall covering boundaries, natural consequences, media, reducing family stress and making smooth transitions. This series is ideal for Kinder and first grade parents, but all welcome.
Governing Council: Parent Rep Candidate Nominations and Candidate Info is due by Monday, May 6 at 12:00 pm. Parents interested in being a candidate for a 2-year term as Governing Council Parent Representative for the August 2013 to June 2015 term should submit their name and a bio/background statement to Joan Ingle. Adults and kids are encouraged to run/walk/scoot together and help us support awareness for this special cause! Click here on the link to register today and remember to wear your Pali gear! http://walkwithlove2013.kintera.org/teampali On Another Note: As you may know, many hours and a great deal of care goes into the organization and formation of each class. There are a number of factors, as outlined in our charter, which our teachers and administrators consider in this process. These factors include but are not limited to:
A balanced group of abilities Individual learning styles Gender balance Peer relations Ethnic balance Talents, gifts, interest and strengths State and Charter compliance guidelines Class size and Norming regulations Our teachers' educational experience and your child's success is the cornerstone of the process. Our teachers are professional and considerate of each child's unique learning qualities. As a public school, we are not in a position to honor requests by parents to have their child placed with a particular teacher. We have a fantastic staff and precious students and they make our school so wonderful. I am confident that the 2013-2014 school year will be a fabulous one for all! Summer Break: The last day of school will be June 7 and the office closes June 13.
Sincerely,
Joan Ingle,
Principal
