The Parent Outreach: This Monday, April 29 at 8:30 am in the STAR room, Richard B. Cohen will be speaking on the topic: "Helping Your Elementary School Child To Be Successful: Parenting Styles and Research Findings". Richard is a renowned psychotherapist, certified behavioral specialist, and master addictions counselor who has developed and operated a leading innovative treatment program on the west side for over 25 years He is the founder and president of "Of One Mind" which is dedicated to helping teens, young adults, and families resolve behavioral challenges, psychological issues, and chemical dependency problems. His creative skills and psychotherapeutic strategies have produced successful results. He is a well-known speaker in the community on various issues and has been well received by the parents who have attended his parent education seminars.

Congratulations to our Honor Orchestra Students: Eight Pali elementary students will be participating in the all school elementary Honor orchestra on Saturday, May 4th at UCLA. We are so proud of our Palisades Participants. The following students are to be praised: Charlotte Costain, Daniel Doran, Akseli Kangaslahti, Gus King, Matthew Polovinchik, Wyatt Standish, Samuel Wan and Greta Zumbrunnen.
Pennies for Patients: Palisades Elementary Student Council joined 27,000 schools nationwide to support Pennies for Patients, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual fundraising campaign. So far our students have gathered over $200 worth of pennies! Students still have a few weeks to continue to help children who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. All you have to do is collect coins in the small green boxes and bring them back to school to put in your child's classroom donation collection box. Our school's goal is to raise $1,000, but the sky's the limit! All checks can be made payable to "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society". Thank you for your generosity and caring.
Open House: Open House is this Thursday, May 2 from 5:00 pm. - 7:00 pm. Family Picnic time will be from 5:00 pm. - 6:00 pm. and classrooms will be open from 6:00 pm.-7:00 pm. Please join us!
Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair is Happening: Please visit the Book Fair and consider buying a book from Jane Jaffe's library wish list table to donate to Pali's library!Jane Jaffe has also comprised a new and expanded AMAZON Pali Library Wish List! Our Annual Walkathon is on Friday, May3: Walkathon packets came home in folders on Friday. This is our LAST fundraising event of the year and we plan to raise $25,000!! Every dollar will help pay for teachers' salaries, enrichment programs, computer technology and more. This is a beloved Pali event! The kids have so much fun walking with their friends and feel good about contributing to their school, so please help them get sponsors for their walking challenge! There are amazing prizes this year, including: Toppings Yogurt field trip, Scarlett's Cupcake party, Bentons gift cards, Passes to the Pier, Panda lunch and more!Please see packets with details in your child's folder. Governing Council: Parent Rep Candidate Nominations and Candidate Info is due by Monday, May 6 at 12:00 pm. Parents interested in being a candidate for a 2-year term as Governing Council Parent Representative for the August 2013 to June 2015 term should submit their name and a bio/background statement to Joan Ingle. Ballots and candidate statements will be sent home Friday, May 10 with completed ballots due back in the school office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24. The candidate receiving the most votes will be the new Parent Rep for a two-year term; the candidate receiving the next most votes will be Parent Rep alternate for the same term. For additional details about the school's Governing Council, please see Element 4 of the Charter, available on the school website or in the office.
Parent Outreach Committee Speaker Series: Dr. Barbara Moreno, teacher and child and family therapist, will lead two groups this May. "Bright Start" will be on two Fridays, May 10 and 17. Dr. Barbara Moreno will lead group discussions focused on a review and follow-up to her series in the Fall covering boundaries, natural consequences, media, reducing family stress and making smooth transitions. This series is ideal for Kinder and first grade parents, but all welcome.
