PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,                                                   February 16, 2013
president's day
Presidents Day: This Monday, February 18 is a national holiday. In honor of this, school will be closed. Enjoy this three-day weekend!

jump ropeJumpRope for Heart:Thank you so much Trisha & Dr. Jochen, coaches Kris and Jonah, Jerriann Fleming, Ona Barnett and Rhiannon Dourado for all your hard work on this super fun day.  It is really one of the kids' most favorite events of the year and they learn about giving to American Heart Association and about the importance of exercise. Even two officers from the LAPD showed up and jumped!

Founders Day2013 PTA Founder's Day: The award recipients have been decided upon: Laurie Duran, Miguel Espinoza, Coach Kris, Daphne Gronich, Alyssa MacMillar, Paul Nagle, Kim Neumann, Andreas Neumann and Terri Rawson Thetford. Please join us in honoring these volunteers and staff at Pali who have gone above and beyond on Thursday, February 21 at 2:00pm in the Pali Elementary Library.  All parents are welcome. Also, please go to the Sign Up Genius to volunteer to bring food and/or beverages for the event: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0C49ABA62C7-founders/114791
trash freeGreen Team & Waste Warriors introduce "Trash Free Thursdays": This Thursday, February 21 Pali Elementary Green Team and Waste Warriors are introducing "Trash Free Thursdays" and all following Thursdays. We will be asking students and faculty to bring trash free lunches and snacks.  Please pack lunches in lunch boxes, pack sandwiches with reusable sandwich sacks/plastic containers, and use water containers instead of disposable water/beverage bottles/juice boxes.  We are hoping to instill the notion "reduce, reuse, recycle" (with an emphasis on "reduce") in our kids that they will carry into adulthood.  We also would like to support LA City's goal of becoming a zero waste city by the year 2025.  Thank you, parents, for your continued support in this very valuable Pali Elementary Green Team initiative.

Mark Your Calendars and Get Ready to Spell:  The Second Annual Pacific Palisades Spelling Bee has been scheduled for Sunday, February 24, 2013.  Last year, Pali Elementary had a great showing at this community-wide event and Pali students took home 4 of the 12 trophies awarded.  Let's do it again!

Sincerely,

Joan Ingle,

Principal
