PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
 
Dear Parents,                                                                         December 8, 2012  
 
Palisades Coordinating Council: Our next meeting scheduled for this Monday, December 10 at Paul Revere Middle School has been cancelled.  

The Fourth Grade Holiday Boutique and Fundraiser: This Monday, December 10 after the morning assembly, please stop by the school Library for a cup of coffee and shop for holiday gifts! 20-40% of all proceeds will be going to support the Fourth Grade trip to Sacramento!  The fabulous list of vendors include; La Vie Parisian Jewelry, Objects with Purpose Candles, Santa Baby Gift Collections, Mark and Steel adult clothing, Curio + Kind clothing for girls and Little Dudes Only clothing for boys.  And don't forget to enter to win a gorgeous pair of La Vie Parisian Earrings and a Curio + Kind gift bag! Raffle tickets will be sold on the front steps before school all next week and the raffle will be drawn at the event! Ticket winners must 

attend the event to win. Hope to see you all there! 

 

School Tour: This Tuesday, December 11 at 8:45 a.m. there will be a tour for new and interested parents. If you know of any family that is interested in attending Palisades Elementary School as a resident or as a charter lottery applicant, please let them know of our monthly tours. Please have them call the office for more tour information.


PEP Meeting: The next monthly PEP meeting will be on Wednesday evening, December 12  @ 6:30 p.m. Please try to attend and participate in this fantastic parent organization that is so vital to our school and student success. This meeting will be off campus, please see a PEP chair for more information.  

Governing Board: Our next monthly meeting will be this Thursday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m.  Members will gather to discuss the progress of our charter sub-committees ongoing work. All are welcome to attend.  

  

Don't Miss It: The STAR Theater performance of "Blast Back From the Past" and Bollywood Dancers will be this Thursday, December 13 at 5:45 p.m. in the Auditorium. Admission is free! 

  

Lost and Found: All items in lost and found will be displayed outside the cafeteria next week. After 3:00 pm on Friday, December 14 they will be donated. There are currently 54 jackets in lost and found. Eight have names in them.   

 

Planning Ahead: STAR Winter Camp this year will be December 17-21 at Pali Elementary and the week of January 2-4 at Canyon Elementary. You can find the registration form in the STAR room and also you can download one at http://palisades.starinc.org. Questions go to Annie(310) 678-9754 or Starpalisades@aol.com.  

  

Penguin-Mania Continues: The Magazine Drive co-chairs are graciously offering little penguins as prizes for your kids to benefit Pali's Library! For every donation you make from the Pali Library Amazon Wish List - each item has been thoughtfully chosen by our stellar librarian Jane Jaffe - you will receive one penguin of your choice. Buy two items/books on the list, get two penguins. Buy three items/books on the list, get three penguins, etc.! For Early Drop Off Needs: The YMCA's Sunrise School Care provides safe, affordable, quality care for Palisades Elementary students, beginning at First Grade, before school starts, opening at 6:30 a.m.  Children will have the opportunity to engage in activities that benefit them emotionally, physically and socially.  The Y's highly trained staff will provide a safe and fun, age appropriate environment.  Students will be escorted to school at 7:45 am when the doors are open.

Rates: $40 per month - weekly use - or $10 per use - one day drop-in. Membership is required and financial assistance is available for all programs including membership. Pre-enrollment is required, a minimum of 24 hours in advance; space is limited. Become a Y Member today, so you can have access to this family safety net.  A parent must sign children in at the front desk upon each arrival. For more information please contact Raymond Almonte, Director of Membership at 310 454- 5591. Enroll by December 23 at the YMCA as the program begins January 7.

 

School Enrollment and Lottery: Applications will be available in the main office for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year on Monday, January 14. If you know of someone who lives outside the traditional Palisades Elementary School attendance area and wants to submit a lottery application, please let him or her know that the application must be returned by Monday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. The lottery will take place on Friday, March 22 at 8:30 a.m. If you currently have a child at Palisades Elementary School and they have a sibling that will become school aged for the upcoming year, please understand that you must complete an enrollment application for your younger student.

 

Minimum Day: This Friday, December 14 there will be a 1:05 p.m. dismissal for everyone. Please enjoy the holidays and remember that school resumes Monday, January 7, 2013. Happy Holidays to you all and please try to rest and enjoy life with your family as much as possible during this winter break.
