This Week's Happenings

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,                                      Nov. 17, 2012

Heads Up: The week of Nov. 19 - 23 the school will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holidays. School will resume on Monday, November 26.

Planning Ahead: STAR Winter Camp this year will be December 17-21 at Pali Elementary and the week of January 2-4 at Canyon Elementary. You can find the registration form in the STAR room and also you can download one at http://palisades.starinc.org. Questions go to Annie (310) 678-9754 or Starpalisades@aol.com.

Safety: The Palisades Elementary Charter School traffic plan was developed with the primary goal of improving the safety of student drop-off and pick-up. Please respect all school zone and neighborhood speed limits and safety zone signage.  Please be especially aware of the "walkers" and "bikers". Parents are asked to always follow the school's traffic procedures. Consistent adherence to these procedures allow for orderly, efficient and safe entry and dismissal of all students.

The rules for Grades 1 -5 pick-up Driver's Line:

The front side of Palisades Elementary on Via de la Paz is dedicated to the Drivers Line for the 20 minutes after school ends - no parking or getting out of your car at anytime during that time.

The Drivers Line starts at the north gate between the auditorium and cafeteria on Via de la Paz and backs south, towards the bluffs.

When the dismissal school bell rings, the children will walk to the gate that is between the auditorium and the cafeteria (waiting area).  One teacher on the curb will identify the cars in line and radio ahead.  Another teacher will call out the names on a walkie-talkie.  Please load your children as quickly as possible. When the Drivers' Line is over you then must park and find your child on the playground.

Walkers are to wait with their class and teacher until an adult comes for them. If no one does, they will be sent to the yard for pick-up after the dismissal process is over. Parents will have to park and pick them up on the playground.

Note: If you have a kindergarten child-attending STAR that dismisses during this time, you will have to find parking other than the carpool lane. Thank you all for your continued help in this important cooperative procedure.

Sincerely,

Joan Ingle, Principal
