PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents, October 12, 2012
Yee Haw: Saturday is the day that most of our kids look forward to all year! See you all there! Hours are from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Dr. Barbara Moreno Presents:Sit back and ease your mind with four Parent Coaching sessions with Marriage and Family Therapist Dr. Barbara Moreno entitled "Bright Start" beginning this Monday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. in the Library. Dr. Moreno is a well-known Westside child and family therapist as well as a parent and teacher. Explore strategies to get over the humps and bumps of childrearing - setting boundaries, bedtime, meals, media monitoring, establishing family traditions, and respectful communication.
PEP Meeting: Our next PEP meeting is Wednesday at 6 pm on October 17 in the school library.
Upcoming Event - The Election's Impact on Public Education: Confused about the upcoming November 6 election? Unsure how the outcome will impact our local schools, LAUSD and California's Public Education System? If so, please join us on Wednesday, October 17 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. in the Palisades Elementary Auditorium. Learn more about the two public education-funding initiatives (Propositions 30 and 38) and hear from our District 50 Assembly candidates regarding their plans for our schools. The PEP meeting that evening will begin at 6:00 pm so that parents, teachers and administrators can attend this important event at 7:00 pm. Please RSVP to reply@parent-partnership.org.
ShakeOut: On Thursday, October 18 our school will participate in the Great California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in U.S. History. Everyone will practice how to drop, cover and hold on, and teachers will discuss the importance of earthquake preparedness with our students. This is the chance for us all to practice what to do during earthquakes to reduce potential injuries. More information is available at www.shakeout.org. As always, thank you for your continued support in helping us provide a safe educational environment for your child.
Pruning Party on Swarthmore: On Saturday, October 27 we will be cleaning, pruning and perfecting Swarthmore Street for Pali Elementary students and our neighborhood. We are being helped and led by Dirty Girl Organic Land Care owner Hilary Rose and students from Pali High. We are asking our community to lend their Green Thumbs, their gardeners and trash bins (& bags) from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm for Pali Beautification Day! Please sign up and note if you are bringing or donating a friend or gardener as well as extra trash bins. Those with trucks may help load the bins and remove the weeds and excess brush. Please bring gardening gloves & sunglasses. Pali thanks Dirty Girl Landscape, Pali High Volunteers, Coffee Bean and Tea and all of you who are helping to make our street and neighborhood a beautiful place to walk. Note: There will be no elementary children at this event as we are working next to a busy road! Please take a moment to sign up at: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/5080B4EACAD28A46-pali
Halloween Parade:
On Tuesday, October 31, all students and teachers will gather with their teachers and classmates for this wonderful annual event. All are invited to be surprised, delighted and entertained by this festive celebration.
Calling All Sweet Tooths: This year our Palisades Elementary children will have the opportunity to donate their extra Halloween candy to those members of our larger community who don't have the chance to celebrate Halloween, including the homeless. Please deposit your excess candy into the boxes, which will be at the entry hallway of the school on Wednesday and Thursday, November 1 and 2. This will be a great opportunity for your child to learn a little more about the gift of sharing with those of less financial means.
Box Tops:
Remember to turn in your Box Tops collection sheets this next week! At the Monday assembly on October 22, we will draw three lucky winners who will receive gift certificates to the yogurt shoppe, and the class with the most completed collection sheets gets to keep the Box Top Bear until the next drawing!
Prepare for 6th grade: On Wednesday, November 7 @ 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Somoza, Principal of Paul Revere Middle School will be here to discuss the Paul Revere Sixth Grade program and to answer questions. This evening program should take about an hour. I encourage all 4th and 5th grade parents and students to attend. If you have particular questions for the Principal or the sixth grade teachers, please send them to Joan Ingle who will pass them on to the Paul Revere staff.
Yours truly,
Joan Ingle, Principal
