PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents, October 6, 2012
This week, October 8-12 is Parent Conference Week: This Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be minimum days with dismissals at 1:05 pm for all. On Tuesday and Thursday dismissal times will be the usual (grades 1-5 at 1:45 pm and Kindergarten at 1:30 pm).
Yee Haw: This Saturday is Yee Haw! This is always one of our school's favorite events. Please plan to attend and have lots of fun! It begins at 12:00 pm and closes at 4:00 pm.
Upcoming Event - The Election's Impact on Public Education: Confused about the upcoming November 6 election? Unsure how the outcome will impact our local schools, LAUSD and California's Public Education System? If so, please join us on Wednesday, October 17 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. in the Palisades Elementary Auditorium. Learn more about the two public education-funding initiatives (Propositions 30 and 38) and hear from our District 50 Assembly candidates regarding their plans for our schools. The PEP meeting that evening will begin at 6:00 pm so that parents, teachers and administrators can attend this important event at 7:00 pm. Please RSVP to reply@parent-partnership.org.
ShakeOut: On Thursday, October 18 our school will participate in the Great California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in U.S. History. Everyone will practice how to drop, cover and hold on, and teachers will discuss the importance of earthquake preparedness with our students. This is the chance for us all to practice what to do during earthquakes to reduce potential injuries. More information is available at www.shakeout.org. As always, thank you for your continued support in helping us provide a safe educational environment for your child.
Attendance Update: How are we doing? In September we did not make the progress we had hoped to make. Last year our revenue loss was $5,702 for the month of September. This year we lost $7,457. Please come to school and learn! We can't teach an empty seat! Everyday counts! Yours truly, Joan Ingle, Principal P.S. Calling all owners of the 26+ lunch boxes and 16 water bottles in the school's lost and found. Come and claim me! Thought for the Week: Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
