20 Years of Succeeding in Reading (Seed)
Reading Seed distributes free books to children, encouraging independent reading, increasing confidence and comprehension, and building a culture of literacy at home. Photo by Creatista.

This year a core community program celebrates 20 years of success! In 1995, The Reading Seed Children's Literacy program was started by a group of volunteers who wanted to positively impact children's literacy in Pima County. In the first year, 21 volunteers trained by a UA literacy expert worked with 42 children. By 2004, Reading Seed had grown to 150 reading coaches working in 13 schools, and coordination and leadership of the program was provided solely by committed volunteers. That same year, Rotary Club of Tucson identified literacy as an issue of significant need in the community.

Meet the New Ensemble
Stories that Soar! is blessed to have a strong, dedicated ensemble of contracted actors committed to empowering young people by giving voice to their original words and creative ideas.

Through their skills, talents and amazing feats of imagination, they work together year after year to bring young writers' stories to life through dynamic theatrical productions. Yet, each season we invite new performers into the ensemble to infuse our work with fresh energy and new ideas. This year's auditions resulted in the inclusion of six new cast members
Working Together to Strengthen Tucson

The Bonds will improve our infrastructure, provide affordable housing, protect public safety, encourage tourism, and conserve open spaces.

Additionally the literacy and education focus of the Bonds will support our libraries and provide a permanent home for Job Path, a partner of Literacy Connects in our adult education and job success work. This package of Bonds has been developed by a highly committed group of citizens over several years. You can learn the details at:
