Spring Newsletter 585-385-5870

Wow! I can't believe that it has been 10 years! The rate at which time passes is a testament of the blessing it is to serve from the heart around a topic that I am completely committed to. If you are reading this, then you must know me wether from regular visits to my office or perhaps a lecture or screening that you attended. Regardless of the length of time we have spent together, you most likely were left with the sense that I absolutely love my profession. I have oftentimes repeated, "I can't  imagine doing anything else!" It's true, I live and breathe Chiropractic for me and my family. It is also true that I believe that a prevention focused wellness model of health is needed by EVERYONE!

The first 10 years has afforded me many opportunites for growth and service, influenced by some of the most amazing and dedicated mentors on the planet. We have been able to bring the latest and greatest in techniques, technology and products to our patients and these innovations have resulted in incredible testimonials and success stories, oftentimes where medicine said that a cure wasn't available. In the next 10 years, I am dedicated to expanding our efforts outside of the 4 walls of our office. We want to take our message that efforts to optimize health and prevent disease are the answers to declining health statistics in the U.S. and ever- increasing healthcare costs.

So many times in the past 10 years, I have heard patients say, "If only I knew that this kind of Chiropractic care existed earlier...."

If only they knew.....for their own health and for their children's health they could have avoided invasive testing and interventions, surgeries, medications and the side-effects that go along with them.

If only they knew.....they could have prevented the long-term diagnosis of a debilitating chronic disease.

If only they knew.....they could be less medically and chemically dependent and focus their efforts instead on repairing and rebuilding the body.

If only they knew.....they could have saved money in the long run by investing in the promotion of their health rather than ultimately paying for long-term disease care.

While we don't have the budget of pharmaceutical companies and insurance lobbyiest, I believe that it is our job to make this information widely known and available to the masses. Some of the largest innovations or inventions started with a grass roots effort. If you are passionate about rescuing the health of America one family at a time, please invite us to speak at your event, small group or workplace. You can also tune into our calendar and facebook page regularly for events, public lectures, promotions and patient appreciation. Recommend our page to someone you know today and open up a whole new world of possibilities for their wellbeing!

Thank you for allowing me 10 of the most amazing years of my life! I am so very excited to see what the next 10 will bring. It is you who has made my practice a success and who has made it effortless to persist and perservere. Thank you for being a part of the One Life family and for welcoming me into yours.

Health Care Reform Needed: know the facts
healthcare cost
The 2010 Healthcare Reform Act boasted coverage for over 30 million Americans. There are 2  problems with this:

1. Who is going to pay for it
2. It doesn't address the problems with our current "health" care system.
The United States spends more per capita on healthcare than any other country. Naturally one would think that would result in the best care on Earth. This isn't true. We rank # 50 overall in the world for life expectancy behind many countries including Gibraltar and Denmark. We are only expected to live slightly longer than residents of Bahrain and Cypress. What we have proven to the rest of the world over and over is that more expensive healthcare and more intervention, medicine and surgery does not result in healthier Americans. In fact, we have the worst infant mortality rate than any other country! You might be reading this in shock, but it's true.

In 2011, the US spent $2.7 trillion on healthcare. 75% of these costs went towards treating chronic diseases that are largely PREVENTABLE!

The United States has one of the only Profit for Service healthcare systems. This means that doctors are paid for performing more procedures, not for performance or keeping patients well. In fact, if patients were well, this would significantly hurt healthcare professionals salaries as well as pharmaceutical and insurance company profits. We have a system that doesn't care if you are well, it just doesn't want you to die! The system just wants you to keep coming back for treatment of your chronic disease; refilling your prescriptions, having repeat procedures and keeping hospitals full. I challenge my patients to walk into their doctors offices and say, " I am well, I have no complaints." They would most likely not have anything to offer you and might look annoyed that you wasted their time.

Drugs are not the only answer. The pharmaceutical industry spends $57.5 billion per year on advertising and marketing. That is 19 times more than they spend on research! They are paying a lot of money to put their branding in front of you. The "Ask Your Doctor" campaign has the patient coming in already expecting that they will be walking out with a pill. It isn't completely our faults that we have become a quick fix society. Much effort and money has been spent on repeadtedly drilling this message into our heads. This is to the tune of pharmaceuticals being a $300 billion per year industry! American drug use has increased 90% since 1950 when advertising was improved. The U.S. and New Zealand are the only 2 countries where drug manufacturers are allowed to advertise their products in television and radio commercials.
I retaliate with the challenge to use your common sense and question what we have always done. If it doesn't sound right or inherently make sense to you, challenge it. Most of the medications that are on the market do not end illness. They mask symptoms and change chemistry so that we pass our bloodtests. They do not improve health or restore function and oftentimes are exchanged for a long list of additional symptoms. One of my mentors explained it this way, "There is no such thing as a side-effect. There are undesirable effects of drugs. The undesirable effects occur when a drug, say to manage back pain, passes through a part of the body for which it wasn't intended, say the stomach or liver, and causes damage." Medications work as band-aids to supress important symptoms that are telling us that something is wrong. In many cases, these long-term or life-long meds keep the disease process going and prevent us from working on a deeper level to resolve the initiating problem.
I don't consider any of this "medical bashing" as none of it is opinion. The word doctor means "teacher," and we take an oath to first do no harm. Doctors are supposed to educate patients on their choices and the risks involved with a prescribed treatment as well as denying that treatment. My intention is to present an eye-opener to our current healthcare system in the strong hopes of motivating change. Change comes through demand. We have to initiate change to happen.

If our current trends are to continue:
  • by 2020, 1/5 of our healthcare costs will be spent on the consequences of obesity.
  • the current generation will be the first not to outlive their parents.
  • 50% of Americans will be diabetic within the next 10 years.

If the cost of other goods grew at the same rate as healthcare since 1945:

  • a dozen eggs would now cost $55
  • a gallon of milk would now cost $48
  • a bag or oranges would now cost $134

"Doctored" the movie

...coming soon.

"Your back pain will require SURGERY"
"Without these pills, you face life-long PAIN"
"Your child's behavior requires MEDICATION"

That's what the medical doctor tells you, but who tells the doctor what to say? INFLUENCERS

A visit to the doctor can be traumatic enough. Now we learn about the "influencers" - the people you never see, but whose job it is to turn you into a compliant, pill popping, revenue generation unit. And at all costs.

Doctored reveals the unseen tactics of these "influencers" in an investigation that leads to the highest levels of the American Medical Association (AMA) and reveals an alarming portrait of deception and criminality.
