Dear Friends & Supporters of A.H.A.V.A.,
Each year as the Readathon approaches I play with the idea of joining the kids in their reading. But each year I chicken out since I don't see how I will find any time to read. This year as we approach the last week of the Readathon I am announcing my participation in A.H.A.V.A. Readathon 2013. I have read 6 books already!
I think having a Kindle helped. My favourite book was The Keeper of Secrets by Julie Thomas; a Holocaust historical fiction, following the saga of a stolen priceless violin. I found a lot of free books on the Kindle Daily Deal. Some good, some well - let's just say that after reading about three different types of devices to put on bottle caps, in How to Brew Your Own Beer, I just gave up!
What I have enjoyed about reading for the Readathon was my rediscovery about the pleasure of reading books; the entering into another time, era, world, space, people, culture, etc... I hope the Readathon brings exactly this to all of our younger participants. For many of them it will be the first time they actually read great numbers of books. The intense reading raises their level of fluency, aiding them in gaining English Literacy, a skill so necessary for their future.
Here are comments some kids made
If you promise to sponsor me, I will try my best to read one or two more books during the last week. To bring it to a total of 7 or 8.

Why am I doing this? A.H.A.V.A.'s annual Readathon encourages hundreds of kids in Israel to read English. For 90% it is an arduous task - but they enjoy the challenge! Positive feedback from parents let us know how children have benefited form the Readathon. Kids love it! It works! But that won't pay our expenses.
Therefore I am turning to you to ask you to sponsor me while I read to raise funds. You can sponsor me per book or a flat rate. Information as to how to donate is below.
Thank you from all of our young Israeli readers!
Readingly yours, Gaila
