Outgoing Supreme Court Justice Helen Hoens was not faced with certain rejection by the Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee, the state's top Senate lawmaker said Monday.

Senate President Steve Sweeney said legislators were fully prepared to give Hoens a hearing before Gov. Chris Christie announced last week he would not renominate the Republican justice.

Christie's newest Supreme Court nominee will get a hearing, Sweeney says

Gov. Chris Christie's newest nominee to the state Supreme Court can expect to get a hearing in the state Senate, though no date has been set, Senate President Stephen Sweeney said today.

At a news conference today, Sweeney said he was pleased to see that Christie nominated Judge Faustino Fernandez-Vina, a Cuban-born judge from South Jersey, to the state's highest court last week.

The seven-member Supreme Court currently has two vacancies amid a political standoff between Christie and the Democrats.

A federal lawsuit filed against the video-game vendor GameStop Corp. alleges three South Jersey stores sold used games that sometimes cost more than buying new.

This week, a federal judge in Camden decided the three customers have a right to sue the company, which they accuse of concealing that the cost of used games did not include downloads provided with new games.

Instead, the suit alleges, it cost an additional $10 to $15 to purchase downloads, which combined with the price of the used game, often cost more than it would have cost to purchase it new. In other cases, it did not equal the savings the company advertised.

In two of the cases, it cost five cents more to buy the used product.
