Challa Law Offices would like to invite you to tune in this evening when President Barack Obama will address the nation to lay out his planned executive actions for immigration reform. You can view the speech live, beginning at 8 p.m. ET at WhiteHouse.gov/Live. Even as the U.S. Congress has struggled to pass a comprehensive reform package, the president's new executive actions are expected to have a considerable impact. Below are some of points the president may address in his speech:
  • Children Currently Without Documentation
President Obama's announcement could expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to include any undocumented child who arrived in the U.S., before his or her 18th birthday and before the year 2010.
  • Parents of U.S. Citizen Children and Legal Permanent Residents
Parents of U.S. citizen children and potentially legal permanent residents who are in the U.S. without documentation will reportedly receive two-year work permits and Social Security numbers through the expansion of DACA. The order is expected to require that parents have lived in the U.S for at least five and possibly ten years. Qualified individuals will have to undergo a background check.
  • High-Tech Workers & Graduates
International graduates of U.S. colleges and universities who have degrees in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) will be eligible for 29-month work permits.

We look forward to providing you with a late-breaking update regarding the president's announcements and any new information we learn. Thank you, again.
Sincerely,
