The proposed Lathrop Homes redevelopment includes a revitalized riverfront that would serve as a recreational amenity for residents of the community and surrounding neighborhoods.

After years of careful planning, the team behind the Lathrop Homes redevelopment on Chicago's North Side is set to unveil its master plan at a community meeting Wednesday evening, a key step in transforming the historic riverfront property into a vibrant mixed-income community. Lathrop Community Partners, which includes Taylor Johnson client Related Midwest, Heartland Housing Inc. and Bickerdike Redevelopment Corp., has proposed more than 1,100 residences under the new plan, including a mix of public housing, affordable and market-rate units. The proposal, which preserves 19 of 31 existing structures on the site and includes new retail and residential components, would also engage the Chicago River through the addition of sloping banks, a kayak launch and riverwalk surrounded by 11 acres of restored green space. You can read more about the plan and see additional renderings in this Chicago Tribune feature.
Lathrop Community Partners will formally present the plan at tonight's community meeting, taking place at Alcott College Prep High School (2957 N. Hoyne Ave.) at 6 p.m.
