Tonga radio host

Greetings!
Tonga and the Solomon Island radio stations both have
serious technical problems.
  • Letio Faka-Kalisitiane 93FM Tonga is broadcasting on reduced FM power.
  • Gud Nius FM Solomon Islands is off the air.
Letio Faka-Kalisitiane - Tonga

Tonga's FM tower
is 90 feet high

Do you remember Cyclone Winston back in February?

Fiji's devastation was in the news but Winston also visited Tonga. Tonga avoided the worst of the damage, but our FM tower and antennas didn't. We have been broadcasting on reduced power ever since.

At the time Willy wrote -
"Due to a problem with our Radio mask was damaged by Cyclone Winston which destroy a cable at the top of the mask. we have reduce our transmitted power from 250 to 75 so that we can get some clear signal for a time being.

We are praying for a good weather and a crane to help with the job of fixing the problem. It's hard to get a crane that can go that high, but to get one will be very expensive."

Since then our 90 foot tower was found to be damaged, and so it needs to be lowered, welded, antennas repaired, and raised again. And as you know, resources are scarce in the Islands. There is only one crane capable of the job. And we have one technician (you may remember Murray). Thankfully Tonga Defence Force soldiers have offered to help us with the man-power needed.

But we still haven't got the job done!
Each time we've planned to do the job it has been too windy, or the crane is not available, or soldiers not available. Lately Murray has been overseas.
Gud Nius FM - Solomon Islands

No cyclone damage here, but the FM transmitter cooling fan stopped working. The manufacturer's agent doubted the fan could be faulty. "We have never had to replace one before!" he said. I wonder if he realizes how humid and hot and dusty the conditions are in Honiara? Or the stresses daily power outages and surges place on electronic equipment.

Anyway a local technician is presently making doubly sure it is the fan at fault and he will provide us the information needed to get a replacement from Europe.

Shipping from Europe!
We've a lot of trouble getting items to the Solomons. Issues you wouldn't expect like couriers unable to ship without a ground delivery address in a town that has no street numbers, or even street names! And the opportunities for theft . . !
Please pray for Letio Faka-kalisiatane
  • That the weather, crane, labor, and Murray's availability all line up and the job gets done without further delay.
  • There will be no expensive surprises (like extra components needed from overseas) when the work is being done.
Please pray for Gud Nius FM
  • That the local technician has made the correct diagnosis.
  • For the money needed to prepay the replacement fan and associated components.
  • And that the shipment will arrive (speedily) from Europe.
"Finally, dear brothers and sisters, I ask you to pray for us. Pray first that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you."  2 Thessalonians 3:1

Thank you so much!
May God bless you for your Partnership
in the Gospel for the people of the South Pacific Islands.
