Honiara Flood

It took a while to hear
from Tina in the Solomon islands

That is understandable of course.
Electricity and telephones are usually the first things to fail in a local disaster.

I saw the floods in Honiara on our TV news. [ click to see it ]
But it was more than a day till we heard back from Tina Lemazi, Station Manager of Guds Nius FM.

A text yesterday:
". . . Allen [radio host] is the only one affected. He is ok but lost their house n every thing. Carried away by the flood waters. Praise God he is still smiling . . . Still raining yet"
And today:
". . . thank God for that only yesterday up till last nite. But we are on air now just sharing God's word n giving encouragement especially to those who lost loved ones . . ."

I hear the death toll in Honiara now stands at 44 with many still missing. There are many isolated villages on the hundreds of islands that make up The Solomon Islands. It will take a while to know the full extent of death and damage.

Please pray for . . .

  • Allen and his family who have lost everything
  • the grieving families, that their hearts will turn to the Lord
  • Tina and her radio staff as they minister the comfort and love of God to their people
  • help for the estimated 10,000 people left homeless
  • relief from the diseases that come with lack of drinking water and shelter

We are happy to accept donations for Allen's family

They have lost everything
