Changes in the Grower's Club and Store Hours

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In an effort to simplify our pricing structure and make us more available for your needs, we are making some changes to the FVW Growers Club and extending our hours.  The following highlight the changes to these policies:
FVW Grower's Club
Effective October 1, 2013, the 10% FVW Grower's Club discount will be limited to Wine Kits, Beer Kits, grains, malt and hops.  Although it may seem like just a few items, these products make up a significant majority of your spending dollars.  We will be lowering the prices on the remaining products to compensate for the 10% discount.  To learn more about this policy, please clidk on the following link:
Extended Store Hours
Effective immediately, we will change the closing time on Thursday from 6 pm to 7 pm.  In addition, starting on October 6, 2013, we will be open on Sundays from 1 - 4 pm.  These changes will remain in effect for the remainder of the year, at which time, we will determine the need to keep the extended hours or not.
Buttery Chardonnay!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For those of you that like a buttery Chardonnay, there is a technique called 'battonage' that will help fatten up the finish of the wine, and give it a rich, creamy mouth feel. Just follow the simple instruction below to give any Chardonnay wine kit that buttery taste:

  • Make you kit up as normal, and rack to the secondary carboy on day 5-7 as directed.
  • After ten days, ignore the instructions about fining and stabilising. Instead, add one-quarter teaspoon of metabisulphite powder to the wine, and gently stir it up with a sanitised spoon.
  • Get all of the yeast sediment into suspension, make sure it's nice and cloudy, but don't splash or agitate.
  • Top up with some decent Chardonnay wine (this is better than using water for this technique). At three or four day intervals, go back and stir the yeast up again.
  • Repeat every three or four days for a month.
  • Let the wine settle for two weeks, rack it into a clean, sanitised carboy, and follow all the remaining instructions on schedule, omitting no detail however slight.

By stirring the yeast into suspension repeatedly you get the benefits of the amino acids they carry, along with a host of compounds-principally mannoproteins, which give they creamy aroma and mouth feel.

Customer Feedback
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since the day I started this company, I have taken extreme pride in the way we conduct business with our customers.  All of us here at the"Toy Store" enjoy talking with our customers and we appreciate when our customers take the time to comment on our service and pricing.   I would like to share some of the emails we get each month from our customers:
------------------------------------
This has been one heck of a learning experience and we have an idea of what things we will repeat and what processes, relative to the space we have, did not work well and will modify those.
Thank you and your staff for all of the help and advice, we look forward to starting our next kit after vacation in about a month.
Your website is fantastic, by the way.  I spend a lot of time looking at the winemakingtalk forum, but most of the questions I'm having are already answered somewhere on your website.
My son gave me a starter kit from you for Christmas and my wife gave me a summer breeze wine kit for my birthday. Your starter kit was well put together and came with high quality equipment. The summer breeze kit was easy to do with nice instructions, I had a slight problem with phase 3 but a phone call to you and it was solved by you. We bottled most of the wine last night( some found a way into some wine glasses) and it was very good tasting. I think the color and taste puts it in the class of a white Zin or merlot. It is a good flavored wine though. This wine making experience was a very pleasurable. Thank  you for having a good product and service, plus a very helpful video. We will order from you in the future.
