shortened each article and given you a link if you'd like to read the

Cruiseman Spotlight
Paradise Found!
Half Moon Cay, located less than 100 miles southeast of Nassau is an
award-winning island and our highest-rated port call not only in the
Caribbean but in the world. Half Moon Cay represents the
quintessential private island image for most travelers sandy
beaches, aquamarine waters, and best of all you have the island to
yourself. It was officially opened on December 12, 1997, by Bahamian
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.

USCG: Leak in fuel oil return line likely sparked
Carnival Triumph fire
Feb. 14. The Carnival Triumph fire was likely sparked by a leak
in the No. 6 diesel engines fuel oil return line, a US Coast
Guard investigator said Monday. The fire was contained to a
very small area and the crew did a very good job with fire
containment, Lt. Cmdr. Teresa Hatfield, USCG marine casualty
investigation team leader, said during a short media call.
The fuel oil return line is a flexible hose. A preliminary
investigation indicates fuel sprayed from a hole in the line onto the
hot engine, igniting the blaze, Hatfield said.

Alaska cracks down on behavior
of 'port lecturers' on cruise ships
Shopping in Alaskan ports might be more transparent this summer,
following a recent legal settlement.
Negotiated orders with the Alaska attorney general will require more
disclosure from three companies that provide most of the onboard
shopping talks for the major cruise lines.

Triumph Passengers File Lawsuits Against Cruise Line
By Theresa Norton Masek
Carnival Cruise Lines is facing a number of lawsuits filed by
passengers aboard the Carnival Triumph, which lost power in the Gulf
of Mexico and was towed into Mobile, Ala., on Feb. 14. Miami-based
maritime law firm Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman is
seeking class-action status for its law suit, filed in the U.S.
District Court in Miami on behalf of passengers who were on the ship,
alleging that the conditions onboard endangered their health.
Carnival
plans new itineraries from Port Canaveral
Industry giant Carnival today announced plans for eight-night cruises
out of Port Canaveral, Fla. -- a first for the line.
The company says the Carnival Dream will operate eight-night Southern
Caribbean sailings out of the port that include stops at the islands
of Aruba, Curacao and Grand Turk.
Tipping at
Royal Caribbean no longer just a suggestion
Royal Caribbean soon will begin charging most passengers on its ships
$12 per day for gratuities that will be distributed to staff.
Until now, the line has suggested passengers tip the housekeeping
staff on its ships $5 per day and the wait staff an additional $6.65
per day, for a total of $11.65 in suggested gratuities (the
suggestion for suite passengers was a slightly higher $13.90 per
day). But the line did not automatically add this amount to passenger bills.
Carnival ships to call at
private island of Royal Caribbean
Carnival Cruise Lines has dropped Key West as a port of call on 30
cruises this year, instead making stops at Royal Caribbean
Internationals private island in the Bahamas.
The arrangement is highly unusual because cruise companies generally
try to use the islands they own to differentiate products and itineraries.
