At long last the renovtions to our shopping cernter have been completed. Only our locals can appreciate this, but for quite a while it looked as if the shopping center was being demolished. So, of course people thought we were closed!  Well, I am very happy to report that the renovations are completed and we are still here!

Gone Cruising!

We are aboard the Carnival Conquest this week with our 2nd Annual Southern Gospel Music Cruise group. The Conquest underwent a $60 million renovation in October, so we are anxious to see how she looks now.  I'll give you a report in our next Newsletter.   We'll be back in the office on Jan. 29th. However, if you need to speak with somebody about a cruise, call our office and you will be connected to a very experienced agent.

100th Anniversary of Florida’s First Cruises

Here is some cruising history that most of you will be reading for the first time. It was one hundred years ago , on January 7, 1913, not long after the completion of Henry Flagler’s Oversea Railway from Miami across the Florida keys to Key West, that the 3,786-ton Evangeline sailed from Key West on her maiden cruise. That winter, the Evangeline would operate a series of eight 11-night cruises, the first such program ever offered from a Florida port. Priced from $110 per person, they were sold as “Winter Outings on Summer Seas,” and called at Colon, Panama; Kingston, Jamaica and Havana, Cuba, spending two days in each of Colon and Kingston

The New Crop of Cruise Ships 

This year and next will see the introduction of four new classes of cruise ship, the first of a new crop. Two of these designs, the new TUI Cruises ships from STX Finland and Project Sunshine for Royal Caribbean International from Meyer Werft, are for the Royal Caribbean group. Of the others, the Norwegian Breakaway, also from Meyer Werft, will be for Norwegian Cruise Line, and the Royal Princess, from Fincantieri, for Carnival Corp & PLC. Here is a basic comparison of the new ship classes, at least two of which have so far been ordered of each design:

Carnival drops 10 Belize calls, citing port congestion

Carnival Cruise Lines has dropped 10 calls scheduled for Belize City, citing port congestion. Impacted are the current Carnival Legend cruise, and one in December, and eight Carnival Glory sailings.

Princess Cruises Rings in the New Year with Unprecedented Wave Season Sale

 Princess Cruises is starting off the New Year with an unprecedented sale called “Cruise Deals & Air Steals” for wave season, offering passengers savings on both cruise prices and airfare when booking with Princess eZAir. Featured cruise deals will save passengers up to $1,000 per stateroom on their sailing, plus up to $1,000 savings per couple on airfare as well.

Oceania Cruises Celebrates 10th Anniversary

 

On January 6, 2013, Oceania Cruises marked its 10th anniversary, kicking off a year of special events, designated sailings, engaging social media initiatives and onboard celebrations.

 

QE2 Coming Home?

The QE2 could be on her way back to London, moored opposite the O2 Arena in east London – not sold as scrap, according to recent newspaper reports.

The iconic ship, which has been languishing in Dubai's Port Rashid for the past four years, could still become a floating five-star hotel, according to the consortium QE2 London which has raised sufficient funds -- £20m -- to return her to the U.K.

Trademarks Hint at Names for New Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

With a third Oasis-class ship and at least two more from the mysterious Project Sunshine on the horizon, Royal Caribbean International has trademarked six potential ship names.

Costa Concordia One Year Later

Jan. 13th  marked the one year anniversary of the Costa Concordia tragedy that took 32 lives on Friday, January 13, 2012. A ceremony was held on the island of Giglio for the families of those who lost their lives, while Costa ships at sea flew their flags at half mast and other memorial services were held in Goa, Mumbai, Bali, Jakarta, Shanghai and Lima and on boar ships of the fleet.

Jamaica welcomes 1st Finnish cruise line

Jamaica welcomed  its first Finnish cruise line at the Montego Bay Cruise Ship Pier.  The ship, Kristina Katarina, is also the first to home-port in the island for a total of three days, giving restaurants and nightlife operators in the Second City an opportunity to host the sea-based passengers outside regular cruise-ship hours.

HAL’s Prinsendam gains restaurant, winter garden

Holland America Line’s Prinsendam emerged from its drydock at Grand Bahama Shipyard with a new restaurant, winter garden and cosmetic enhancements.

‘Cake Boss’ to open bake shop on Norwegian Breakaway


Master baker Buddy Valastro, star of the TLC television series ‘Cake Boss’ and ‘Next Great Baker,’ will open an extension of his family business, Carlo’s Bake Shop, aboard Norwegian Breakaway in the ship’s latest addition of New York-related offerings.
