Make it a great day - volunteer

How did you start your day today? With a hug? A song in your heart? A moment in your garden or a rejuvenating workout? We all try to carve out time for inspiration, recreation and joy in our busy lives. TAO has a quick, convenient and very rewarding fix for you - enjoying an arts experience and engaging with our program participants at a dependent care location near you.
We have neighbors in literally hundreds of dependent care settings throughout Hampton Roads. They're people who live with disability, illness, infirmity, crisis and more. Many once had busy, productive lives, just like you and me. Now they have limited access to the healing arts experiences of poetry, music, dance, drama, visual arts, at a time in their lives when they often need it most. Tidewater Arts Outreach is there for them, building bridges in the community by matching artists with opportunities to share their talents. TAO encourages a client-centered focus, which allows participants to engage with artists directly and to experience creative self-expression, freedom of choice, inspiration, happiness and even joy.
We invite you to be part of this caring, creative and enriching environment, as a volunteer program host. You don't have to be an artist to get involved - you just have to enjoy the arts, be willing to try something new (painting, using percussion instruments or learning a new song, for instance), and enjoy meeting people. As a program host, you will circulate among participants and enjoy the one-hour arts experience with them. Depending on the program, you might help pass out supplies, turn pages, adjust materials or assist the artist. If it's a music program, plan on singing, dancing, using an instrument or all of the above! TAO programs hosts usually have a creative spirit, adventurous attitude and outgoing demeanor.
Through your caring presence, you will help seniors in our community take full advantage of Tidewater Arts Outreach creative arts opportunities. It is important work that meaningfully amplifies the value of our programs. We strive to have at least one volunteer at each of our programs involving seniors in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Program opportunities are uploaded monthly to our website - typically at the beginning of each month. To volunteer, email TAOvolunteers@gmail.com; Zoe Hickox will connect you with the right opportunity.
