'Music and Movement' program
a moving experience for TAO instructor
Dance instructor Shellie Fraddin

Dr. Shellie Fraddin is a PhD in the field of  Natural Health Sciences. She is a dancer, author, speaker and coach who specializes in programs on 'aging gracefully.'  Shellie recently presented a "Music and Movement' program for residents at Beacon Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation in Virginia Beach.  Part of her story recounts... "an elderly gentlemen from France, who spoke very little English told me, "I haven't felt so alive ever in my entire life. I never danced before today. Thank you and God Bless you. I will never forget you."  He took my hands and kissed me on both cheeks. I wanted to cry I was so moved.

In the News... the Demonstrated Benefits of Arts and Health

Healing Power of Music.  Glen Maxwell, a music practitioner with the University of Michigan, discusses the healing power of music and his experience with one very special patient, in this inspiring video.

I Die Daily, by Donna Iona Drozda

The Pain Management Center in Atlanta, GA invites individuals to help create a teaching exhibition by submitting a work of art that tells others about their pain experience: living with it, losing it, or both. Artwork displayed are part of a long-term teaching display that is used as a counseling and teaching tool.  Deadline is February 28.   More info here.

TAO is partnering with EVMS on their Community Care Day on Saturday, April 6. We will have a live music stage so that relaxing, entertaining musical engagement is on hand for clients, students and staff  to enjoy, as free medical screenings and information are provided.

Food for Thought:  The arts cultivate a healing environment, helping patients address the mental and emotional aspects of recovery.
