Ameren Illinois investing in infrastructure upgrades in metro-east

Updating the grid is under way in the metro-east as Ameren Illinois spends the next 10 years replacing out-of-date electrical infrastructure. The utility provider is investing millions of dollars to install a "smart grid" and "smart meters" at residences across 43,700 square miles in Illinois. (Read More)


LCCC Receives Governor's Award (WBGZ Radio, 11/04/13)

Lewis & Clark Community College has been a leader in sustainability programs over the years, and is the only community college to be honored with the 2013 Governor's Sustainability Award. Nate Keener, of Lewis and Clark's Sustainability Department says the college has continued to make aggressive strides toward its lofty goal of campus carbon neutrality in 2058. (Read More)


Fundraising to protect region's interests enters public phase, panel says (Illinois Business Journal, 11/07/13)

Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois has entered the public phase of its "One Voice. United for Growth" investment campaign aimed at generating $3.2 million to support what it says are the council's most critical programs as it works to ramp up the region's economic development engine. The council has already secured commitments for more than $850,000, which represents in excess of 25 percent of the total goal. $7.5 million hotel, restaurant under construction (Illinois Business Journal, 11/10/13)

Ground has been broken along Interstate 270 on a new $7.5 million hotel and restaurant. The three-story, approximately 80-room hotel will include a business center with a 1,500-square-foot conference facility, exercise room and indoor pool and spa, as well as a 6,000-square-foot free-standing restaurant and bar. (Read More) 


Military breaks ground for $65 million defense installation at Scott

Senior military and civilian officials broke ground on Wednesday for a $65 million headquarters building for the rapidly growing Defense Information Systems Agency, Continental United States. Construction of the new facility is scheduled to conclude in late 2015, with a ribbon-cutting set for spring 2016.  (Read More) 


Lindenwood to build second Belleville dorm (Belleville News-Democrat, 11/13/13)

As construction wraps up on one dorm on its Belleville campus, Lindenwood University is making plans for a second student residence hall. The new dorm is expected to be similar to the 25,000-square-foot, $4 million dorm now under construction on South 23rd Street. The dorm was designed to house 180 students.  (Read More) 


St. Clair County receives federal housing aid (Belleville News-Democrat, 11/14/13)

St. Clair County will receive more than $3.8 million in federal funds to go toward two programs administered by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding includes more than $3.2 million to local governments through the Community Development Block Grants program, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.  (Read More) 


Work under way on new Golden Corral (The Telegraph, 11/14/13)

A car dealership's unused building is coming down this week to make way for constructing the new location of Alton's Golden Corral, which is slated to open there this spring. Demolition began Tuesday on the former showroom at the front of the Dave Mungenast Alton Toyota property at 850 Homer M. Adams Parkway. The new Golden Corral will have the same 31 food stations, but they will be arranged to provide more efficient foot traffic flow.  (Read More)

Scott Patriot Program tops 300 (Edwardsville Intelligencer, Nov. 14, 2013)

The recently launched Scott Patriot Program has reached a new milestone in time for Veteran's Day, signing on 321 businesses, organizations and communities as Patriots. Each is recognized as being "military-friendly" thanks to discounts offered and other means of support demonstrated for military families affiliated with Scott Air Force Base (AFB). "It was emotional": Local company's workers customize Harley for Wounded Warrior (Belleville News-Democrat, 11/02/13)

When Chuck Krugh decided his company should fix up a motorcycle to give to a Wounded Warrior, he had no idea how much his employees would embrace the concept. He also had no idea what a great kid would end up with the bike. Krugh, senior vice president and general manager of Jet Aviation St. Louis Inc. said everything about the project -- from receiving the original motorcycle, to watching it get customized, to presenting it to Chad Hembree, a former U.S. Army specialist injured during fighting in Afghanistan -- was unbelievably satisfying.
