Sense of Place: A Key to Hunter Recruitment
Editorial
As a young kid, I often sought refuge under a large post oak which was located in a narrow tree-line on the backside of the 3 acre "ranch" that I grew up on. I still clearly recall spending hours under that big oak, with BB gun in hand, which later became a Savage .22/.410 over and under, in pursuit of birds, squirrels, and other unsuspecting critters. At times I would seek out that old tree to simply escape the "real world" of books, yard-work, and such, sitting in the shade of the sprawling canopy of the old oak, doing nothing more than taking in what Mother Nature provided within my immediate view.

I'm pleased to say that business is good at WSI. Our bookings are brisk and we are currently active with our various exotic game species hunts. I hope all is well in your part of the world. Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can assist in any way with your future hunting needs. And remember, life's better outside, so get out and enjoy it, and better yet, take a kid with you.
Cheers,
Greg Simons

For those of you who have never experienced hunting gobblers during the spring in Texas, when birds are thundering their beckoning calls to prospective mates, and wild flowers are in bloom, well, let's just say you're missing something special.

We still have some openings on a few of our turkey properties for any of you who would like to sneak in a late March or April hunt.
Our Chaparrosa Ranch hunt, with fantastic lodge and pool area provides a unique blend of being able to take a gobbler, hog, and javelina all on the same hunt. This huge property in South Texas, near Crystal City, has many miles of creek bottoms and lots of wildlife. This 3 day, 3 night package is priced at $1595.
The historic H. Yturria Ranches in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area is home to an abundance of turkeys, and when you combine a very nice camp setting, with lots of other wildlife, and some South Texas Mexican Cuisine, you have a recipe for a fun time at a great destination. This 2.5 day hunt is $1195 which includes 2x1 guide, meals, lodging, and 1 bird, with an option on a second bird for an additional $525. We still have room for couple of more hunters.
On the S Ranch we are able to offer our clients an opportunity to hunt multiple properties, totaling over 20,000 acres. This is a one bird package which includes meals, lodging, guide (2x1), and game care, and is priced at $1,195 per turkey hunter. A second turkey can be taken for an additional $375. Lodge is relatively new with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths, with nice furnishings, big screen TV and satellite dish. This is a great perennial destination for Rio Grande turkey hunting, and is located a few miles north of San Angelo.

Free Range Aoudad Sheep Hunts
True to sheep form, aoudads tend to frequent rugged, remote terrain. Their eye sight is eagle-like, they are as wary as any game animal in North America, and they are extremely hardy, and hard to anchor, even with a well placed bullet. Simply put, this is a hunt that should be in any serious big game hunter's travel plans.
We conduct the majority of these hunts on two large properties near Alpine and Marathon, TX. One ranch encompasses almost 200,000 acres, and the other even larger than that. This is big, raw, unspoiled country, very well suited to a sheep's liking.
Our package includes 3.5 days, and 4 nights, with guide, lodging, meals, and game care included as part of the package. Facilities are modest, but plenty adequate. Our 2 x 1 guided hunts are priced at $4200, and our 1 x 1 hunts are $4700. Nonresident licenses are $48 and are guaranteed, with no drawing or lottery.

Over the last 5 years, we have had a great run on big sheep, with approximately 70% of our harvest including rams over 30". The majority of the aoudads we harvest are in the 29"-31" range, with most of the rams being 8-10 years old. Success rates on having shots at mature rams approach 90%. But, make no mistake; this is not a fish shoot. This is most well suited for a hunter looking for a sporty, challenging experience in big wild terrain, chasing extremely wary animals. Big time hunting, at a very reasonable price.

Great Eastern Turkey Hunt in Oklahoma
We are pleased to be able to offer an exceptional turkey hunting package for Eastern strain turkeys near Ada, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Trophy Ranch comprises approximately 3,000 acres, situated in Hughes, Coal, and Pontotoc Counties and is strictly managed for wildlife. This is a beautiful property with dense stands of hardwoods, rolling hills, over 25 lakes and ponds, and 2.5 miles of Muddy Boggy Creek meandering through the property. Extensive wildlife habitat work and supplemental feeding has resulted in an abundance of turkeys. Hunters will have access to a very nice lodge which is fully furnished. The hunt package is set up as an unassisted hunt package which includes lodging and access to the ranch, but hunters do their own guiding and cooking. Here is what the basic outline looks like:
- You can choose two different 3-day hunt periods.
- Lodging is included.
- A harvest quota is set at a maximum of 10 birds, with no more than 5 hunters at any given time.
