Editorial

Wow. It does not seem like WSI should be transitioning into our fall schedule, just yet. Fact of the matter, however, is we'll begin our New Mexico pronghorn season this weekend. The week after that, dove season here in Texas begins. From that point forward, until mid-April of next year we'll have a steady flow of clients coming through our camps.
This is an exciting time of the year. Fall hunting seasons, Friday night lights and big college games on Saturdays, the first cool fronts of the year just around the corner, pre-season deer surveys, and kids going back to school. Life is good, and for me, it's accented in a celebratory way this time of the year.
We still have some fall openings available, and we have some hunt opportunities outlined in the body of this WSI Enews. Give us a shout if we can assist in any way.
Cheers,
Greg Simons

Texas Free-Range Elk Hunts
Texas is not well-known as being a hot spot for elk, but there are some decent populations of free-ranging elk in parts of West Texas. Our hunters have taken some really nice bulls over the years on our West Texas elk hunts and we still have a few openings, should you have an appetite to chase a big bull this year.
These 4 day packages are priced at $3500 for the hunt and $4000 for the kill. Most bulls that we have taken generally score 300"-325" but we have taken a few bulls that are over 350", with most bulls being typical 6x6 bulls. We recently found out that one of our landowners has provided us with unanticipated harvest allocation for this year, so we have room for a few more hunters. Hunt can be scheduled for September - October, or perhaps January. Non-resident licenses are only $48. Call for more details.

Texas Dove Hunting For anyone looking for some late minute, great dove hunting in the San Angelo area, we have a couple of options for you to consider. All hunts take place in September. - Day Hunts- These are basic access fee day hunts for $85 per hunter per day or $150 for a 2-day deal. No frills, but plenty of birds.
- Package Deal- This 2 day, 2 night package includes meals, lodging, and "guides" at a cost of $495 per hunter with a minimum group size of 8 hunters. Very limited availability.
We have several fields around the edge of town, here in San Angelo, totaling several hundred acres, including milo and some uncut wheat. Currently, there is a huge number of whitewings and mourning doves using our fields, with some collared doves. These are resident birds, a big percentage of which roost and loaf in town and forage on the nearby grain fields.
