Moving Forward
January 7, 2014
The perpetual progression of time seems consume one
year after another at an ever increasing rate. Even though we know it's not true, the illusionary speed at which times marches on seems to get faster, as we get older. My 50th birthday this past November is a personal milestone that reminds me that I'm no spring chicken, but none the less, I still wake up in the morning looking forward to another day and another task....life is good. Notch another year under our belt, and 2014 will go down in our WSI books as one that had more highs than lows. Business activity continues to rebound from the lull of 2009, and our wildlife resources in Texas continue to recover from the record-setting drought of 2011, which continued to linger in some areas of the state. Overall, I'd rate 2013 as a "pretty good" year for WSI. Quality of deer, both whitetails and mule deer, were not as good over-all as I had hoped and expected, but we still managed to harvest some great animals, and our client retention appears to be relatively good going into our new year. I'm feeling upbeat about our start for 2014. From a rangeland point of view, fall and early winter rains in many areas of Texas have allowed for excellent winter forage production for wildlife over much of the state, and our January is positioned better in that respect than it has been since perhaps 2007. We received up to 3" on La Rucia Ranch last week and 4"-7" on portions of Yturria which is a bonus for this time of the year. Body conditions of animals we have taken this fall have been in excellent shape, on average. Additionally, though we are only a few days into 2014, our rebookings and inquiries are at a stronger pace than they we have seen since 2008. I continue to be humbled by the loyal support that our hunters and landowners place in our ability to serve their needs. I'm also thankful for the dedicated assistance from our support staff. Guides, cooks, field technicians, interns, office personnel, and others continue to step up and contribute in ways that makes a difference and makes my job a pleasure....I am proud to be on their team. As WSI enters its 27th year of operation, I look forward to continuing to explore ways that we can improve our service, seek new growth opportunities, and have fun along the way. I hope that you will choose to be a part of the process. Please let us know if we can assist your needs in any way. Here's to wishing you and yours are healthy, prosperous, and fun 2014. Cheers, Greg Simons, WSI Proprietor |
With the bountiful turkey hatch in 2010 and 2012, Texas turkey hunters can expect good carryover of mature gobblers this next spring. And, with recent moisture than we have received in our primary turkey hunting locales, we are positioned to enjoy an early spring green-up, which tends to fuel turkey breeding behavior, providing for better calling conditions. Many of our turkey hunts are already booked, but we still have some great options to consider. Click on this link, and you can review some of the options that are available for our clients who are considering a spring outing with WSI.

If you wish for WSI to process your license, please include license fees in with the balance payment, and make sure that we have a Hunter Profile from you so that we will have all the necessary information.
Also very important, on those hunts where there are fees due at time of hunt, such as trophy fees on exotic hunts, balance must be paid in cash, cashier's check, or credit card prior to departure. All credit card charges are assessed a 3% upcharge on amount being charged.

Texas Hunting License
One of the great features of hunting in Texas is our over the counter hunting license arrangements. Hunters do not need to worry with going through a lottery or drawing to obtain a hunting license. Additionally, for young hunters who are less than 16 years of age, including non-residents, fees are a bargain at $7 for a general hunting license. For WSI clients, our office manager, Jennifer, will be happy to process your license for you and we'll have the license waiting for you in camp when you arrive. You will simply need to fill out our WSI Hunter Profile and provide this to us at least 10 days prior to your hunt, along with your hunting fees.
