Greetings!
Hi All! Just wanted to let you know about our weekend here at breathe. Tomorrow - Saturday, December 14, world-renowned psychic medium Suzane Northrop will be here offering a group session. Suzane comes every year and graces us with her energy and powerful messages of love and forgiveness from the departed. This meeting is always so moving -- there is a palpable sensation that arises whenever a loved-one who has passed over enters the room. I get chills just writing about it! I feel them clamoring to be heard already. Please register at www.suzanenorthrop.com. We may have walk-in space available too.
And on Sunday, Jaclyn Ceesy from Blu Papaya will be here with her gorgeous textiles and showcasing some of her luscious hand-made shea butter products. Shea butter is a skin super food that delivers extraordinary nourishment and hydration. She uses only unrefined shea butter in her products like Rosemary Citrus, Fleur Citrus and Eucalyptus Tea Tree skincare. Jaclyn will be here sampling and selling her creams on Sunday from
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
We also have lots of great gifts for the holidays and of course, amazing food! And so many remarkable books are out this season -- some of my favorites include Elizabeth Gilbert's fascinating novel The Signature of All Things, about a turn-of the century (19th) botanist named Alma Whitaker. Gilbert's historical research is breath-taking. The life Alma leads sheds light on the world of women in science in the 1800's, at times so shockingly frank and so touchingly true. This book is amazing. It may just be one of the best books I have ever read.
Another favorite for me is Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I met Kate at a booksellers conference earlier this year and she gave me an advanced readers copy. Her publicist sang its praises -- as they always do -- but she was so right!! Oh I loved this tale of Ursula Todd, a woman in the early 1900's (I sense a theme here!) who dies over and over again, of different circumstances, only to be reborn the same person, leading a slightly altered life. As she ages more each time, we see how her path ultimately comes to change the world. So inventive and compelling, and moving.
Please come by to pick up a copy for you or a friend -- you will fall in love with these unlikely heroines - Alma and Ursula -- and perhaps see the world differently.
Hope to see you soon!!
Love,
susan

Yes - it's been 10 years that we have been hosting this gathering at breathe books! I started this event on December 25, 2004 because, as a Jew, I have always felt a little lonely on Christmas. I wanted a place to hang out with others who also felt a little left out. So instead watching Christmas Parades and listening to Christmas music, we gather to in a secular atmosphere and enjoy food and good company.
Please bring a vegetarian dish to share. We will also have food and drink from the cafe for sale. As always, music by the fabulous Michael Raitzyk, Judith Geller and their kids at 1:30!
By the way, we call this a Jewish Christmas party because traditionally we have Chinese food and show a movie -- a well-known Jewish tradition! We've evolved, though, into all sorts of vegetarian food and this year we will not screen a movie. We will focus on noshing and kibbitzing instead!
Proceeds will benefit Doctors Without Borders. We look forward to seeing you! Hosted by Susan Weis-Bohlen and Larry Bohlen, who will be making awesome espresso shots to sample!
