Susan
Susan Weis-Bohlen

Patience. That is the word of the day. Week. Month! I'm trying to have patience, with grace and ease. The Buddha said that acceptance of things as they are is the path to enlightenment. Patience is key as we wander along this path.

So what has got me so impatient? I'm so excited about the new breathe bookstore café that I'm having some difficulty accepting things as they are...that some things move slowly...slower than I would like them too! While some construction has begun, there are little delays along the way. So I will be practicing patience and acceptance of the way things are over the next several weeks.

I know once the café is open it will be so great and these delays will seem like nothing. Remind me of that please!

In the meantime, please visit us to see the latest items on sale, to peak at the progress and to buy books! In fact, our used books section is bursting like Spring with newly arrived titles.

And I begin teaching a 4-week Meditation class at Roland Park Country School. See all the details below!

Sunday, April 14,  1 p.m.  - 2:30 p.m. Meet the Author Mali Phonpadith: A Million Fireflies

  Mali

In her new book, A Million Fireflies, Mali Phonpadith takes her readers on a journey of love and loss. Born in Laos at the height of the civil unrest during the Vietnam conflict, Phonpadith was only four years old when she and her family crossed the Mekong River under the cover of night to arrive at a refugee camp in Thailand. From there, they journeyed to America, where Phonpadith grew up balanced between two cultures. In her adulthood, her journey turns inward but no less fraught with deep rivers and dark nights. From the tragic accident that took her fiancé's life, to the loss of her best friend to suicide, and her father's passing from his three week battle with liver cancer, Phonpadith's experiences and emotional journey gives a glimpse of a spirit capable of holding heavy sorrow and buoyant joy in beautiful tension.

This is a refugee survival story filled with twists and turns. It speaks of poverty, resettlement, identity, tragedy, grief, hope, faith, and reclaiming joy after tremendous sorrow. Meet the author for what is certain to be a powerful discussion.  Cost: Free, donations accepted

IONS Bookclub: Ervin Lazlo's Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything

"Mystics and sages have long maintained that there exists an interconnecting cosmic field at the roots of reality that conserves and conveys information, a field known as the Akashic record. Recent discoveries in vacuum physics show that this Akashic field is real and has its equivalent in science's zero-point field that underlies space itself." In Science and the Akashic Field philosopher and scientist Ervin Laszlo conveys the essential element of this information field in language that is accessible and clear. From the world of science he confirms our deepest intuitions of the oneness of creation in the integral Theory of Everything.

Cost: $5 donation. + 20% off book!
