looking for a few good people!
Greetings!

As we get ready to open our

caf next month, we are looking for a few more people to work here! Several part-time and full-time positions are available in both the bookstore and the

caf. There may be some cross-over as we are a small operation...a bookseller may need to make a latte and a veganista (our new term for a barista in a vegetarian/vegan cafe!) might need to look up and order books. Flexibility is key!

Here is what we are looking for:

Full-time and part-time positions are available in our vibrant and busy bookstore caf. We go to great lengths to create an atmosphere of energetic calm where all are welcome and encouraged to seek out new information to support their path and journey. As we are a small store with a small staff, everyone who works here needs to know all the operations, including basic caf functions for bookstore employees and basic bookstore functions for caf employees.

The ideal employee has the following qualities:

At least ONE year retail sales or food service experience: bookstore and caf is preferred, but some sort of shop or customer service experience is required. ServeSafe Certification is a plus.

Knowledge of the metaphysical and general book world: Must know the trends in the industry and the major writers and contributors. Knowledge of specific genres like Buddhism, Meditation, Aromatherapy, Yoga, Reiki, Literary Fiction, Kid's Books, etc. is a plus. Must be well-read and knowledgeable about books and publishing.

Knowledge of vegetarian and vegan foods: You must truly care about what you feed people, and, hopefully what you feed yourself!

Must understand the food, coffee and tea we serve and be willing to learn more about vegetarian, vegan, raw, gluten free and Ayurvedic foods.

Must be punctual as well as flexible with your schedule.

Technical Skills: Must know how to use Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel: Computer literacy is expected -- you need to be comfortable with all aspects of the computer. You will learn how to use our inventory system, booklog, how to update our website, and how to use our email newsletter system, Constant Contact. Your responsibilities will include monitoring emails, sending out group newsletters, creating monthly event calendars, handling many computer-related functions and maintaining our Facebook pages.

Barista training will be provided but experience helps!

Graphic design experience is a plus.

Ability to multi-task and problem solve on your own: We are a very busy little shop and anticipate being even busier with the caf. The phone rings constantly, people need help in the store, clients are waiting for appointments with practitioners, customers are in line and you are on deadline for placing an order. You must be able to handle all these tasks (and more) with grace and ease. A warm, calm, collected personality is necessary for this position. You must understand how to handle the stress and to be efficient and nice at the same time!

Must be a self-starter: During quiet times you are expected to seek out chores on your own.

Must be able to climb stairs and lift heavy boxes (not at the same time!).

General store maintenance is required inside and outside of the shop including cleaning the bathrooms, mopping and vacuuming the store, sweeping the porch and sidewalk, taking out the trash and recycling, keeping the area around the entrance on 36th St. neat and clean.

All must be done with a smile, patience, tolerance, and a caring demeanor.

Creativity is welcome! If you love to cook and bake, you may have the opportunity to create your own signature dish!

Compensation is hourly and dependent upon past experience.  We are not able to offer health insurance at this time. You will receive a significant discount on books and food, as well as free products and some items wholesale.

Please send your resume and a cover letter detailing why you want to work at breathe bookstore

caf to [email protected] by February 22, 2013. Please note in the subject line if you are interested in the caf or bookstore or both.

Thank you so much for your interest in our magical little bookstore cafe! It's a great pace to work -- and soon, to eat and drink!
