Three Beantown Babes in Concert
Ryles Jazz Club, Thursday, May 28 8:00 PM

Join three Beantown Babes - Kris Adams, Gaye Tolan Hatfield and Celia Slattery - for a concert of jazz, originals and folk/rock.   The three women are singers and music educators who have studied, worked, and performed together throughout the years and have all recently released new albums.  They will be backed by Tim Ray, piano, Greg Holt, bass, and Dave Mattacks, drums.  The concert starts at 8:00 PM, Thursday May 28.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.  Ryles is located at 212 Hampshire Street, Cambridge.  Expect great vocals, collaborations and surprises!

Kris Adams is a jazz vocalist who's latest CD Longing received four stars from Downbeat magazine and a Best of Boston 2014 award from the Boston Globe.  She has performed and taught around the US, and in Brazil, Germany and Italy, and is the author of Sing Your Way through Theory.   A "superb scatter" (Fred Bouchard, Downbeat Magazine), Kris will be lending her harmonies and improvisations to group numbers in the concert.

Gaye Tolan Hatfield is a composer, vocalist/flutist, and arranger.  She has created arrangements for the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, NPR's "From the Top," and many local artists.  Gaye's compositions can be heard on numerous TV shows including CSI NY and The Young and the Restless.  Her recent release, Yesterday Once More brings a fresh jazz/pop twist to the beautiful songs made famous by the Carpenters. Gaye's flute playing will bring an added eleme
nt to the show.

Celia Slattery has entertained audiences in clubs, festivals and events from Boston  to Bangkok.  Her original music weaves elements of jazz and folk rock with insightful lyrics inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.  A frequent Ryles performer, Celia's third album, Our Life Together, was called by Metronome Magazine "a wonderfully crafted album highlighted by soul-stirring performances."  Original compositions from the album will be featured in the concert.

Perhaps best known as long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett, Tim Ray's wide-ranging skills as a soloist and accompanist have given him the chance to perform with legendary performers from all walks of music, including Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Jane Siberry and Esperanza Spalding.

Greg Holt is a music educator and in-demand free-lance bass player who has played with jazz and folk/rock groups from the Boston Pops, New York Voices and Kurt Elling, to Susan Werner, and the Thompson Sisters.

The trio will be grounded by drummer Dave Mattacks.  Mattacks was a member of the popular 70's folk-rock group Fairport Convention.  His solo career includes playing and recording with many greats in the rock and pop world including Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, George Harrison,  Roseanne Cash, and Richard Thompson.
