Celia on stage

Cambridge, MA September 26, 2013 Somerville-based singer and songwriter Celia Slattery returns to Ryles for a celebration concert featuring music and players from her upcoming new EP, Our Life Together. The concert is at 8:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 26 at Ryles Jazz Club: 212 Hampshire Street Cambridge, MA 02139. Telephone: (617) 876-9330. Tickets are $12.

Celia's original music weaves elements of jazz and folk-rock with perceptive lyrics inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Leonard Cohen. The themes of her original songs range from enduring relationships (Our Life Together) to staying relevant in middle age (Washed-up Middle Aged Wise Woman Blues). No Return is a song about the difficulty of creating change that was inspired by Hurricane Sandy and the Newtown shooting, while Another Sleepless Night speaks to the stresses of being a woman in the "sandwich generation". Crocus is a song about the death of a loved one.

In addition to the new songs, Celia will be playing some of the originals and favorite covers songs that were featured in her first two CDs, Movin' On and Cast of Characters.

Celia will be backed by a band that includes Jane Potter, piano, Thomas Hebb, bass, and Steve Kirby, guitar, along with well-known drummer Dave Mattacks. who has played and recorded with legends like Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Thompson. Celia just completed a RocketHub campaign to help finance the album. The "Celebration Concert" marks a milestone in the project as all the basic tracks for the album are complete. There will be an opportunity at the concert to pre-buy the completed EP, which is expected to be available in November of this year.
