For our client families as children transition back to school. May they study diligently and choose friends and activities wisely. For clear weather and joyful participation at our Sept. 21 Walk for the Homeless. For WFCM's financial needs to be met through the generosity of individuals, local churches, businesses, and the community. |

Wow, summer is almost over! It has been a busy one at WFCM, and we are grateful for so much activity and support. Specifically, our clients benefited from generous food drives to stock our sparse shelves (more about that in a later column). We also purchased new computers this summer that will allow us to set up a more accurate client database. Thank you for your prayers and financial support that make such improvements possible.
As fall approaches, we invite you to join upcoming WFCM community fundraisers mentioned below. As our annual backpack collection for low-income school children ends, we are preparing for our Help the Homeless Community Walk (Sept. 21) and Annual Fellowship Dinner (October 18). We have room for you at both events and hope you will come support us!
Finally, I am looking for a few good men and women to serve as board members, who will commit to help govern WFCM and support our operations staff. Board members serve a three-year term, meet once every other month for a few hours, and generally help me with fundraising and donor contact. If you are willing to serve on our board, please give me a call, or send an email and I will be glad to give you more information and discuss the process.
As always, I am grateful for your partnership. Here's to fall!
Blessings,
Melissa Jansen
Executive Director

Thank You, Laura!
Because of the efforts of our summer intern, Laura Gaul, we have been able to better stock the WFCM food pantry shelves. Laura skillfully coordinated food drives with Vacation Bible School groups at 11 churches, 4 swim teams, and several businesses. We are grateful for every item--so far 10,423 pounds have been donated! Laura is now headed back to her studies at University of Virginia. We will miss her enthusiast spirit and skillful recruitment.

Client Uses Food Wisely
Cindy is a single mother of four children, ages 19, 17, 10, and 8. Her oldest daughter will soon resume her Pre-Med studies at NOVA, Manassas campus, after taking a semester off to save money for tuition. Cindy studied nursing, but is presently working as a nursing assistant until she has the resources to pay for the review course and licensing needed to become a registered nurse. She says, "I want to put my daughter's education before mine." By selecting free groceries in the WFCM Food Pantry, Cindy manages to pay the rent each month and her daughter's tuition in installments. She expresses gratitude for the assistance, and makes the most of Pantry food by freezing breads, adjusting her menus to what is available, and cooking the fresh produce right away.
