Happy summer!  It's hard to believe it is already July, and that we have been in our new "home" for 6 months now.  July also marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for WFCM, and it's time to reflect on the challenges of the past one.  I have to admit that this past year was the most challenging year for me in my history with WFCM, personally and professionally.  The forced move and the subsequent staff changes were difficult, and the increased cost to the ministry have really made us look at our need to rely on God more closely.  We are ending our year on a deficit, which is hard for me to face, but the staff and I trust that it will be short lived and we will start to see God's provision as we move forward.  We are still in need of new computers, a revised database, a working HVAC system, roof leak repairs, and more food to fill the pantry shelves this summer.

We are grateful for a successful Bread and Water Campaign, which net close to $9,000 and we invite you to join us for our next two fall fundraisers: The Help The Homeless Walk (September 21, read more in this newsletter for details) and the 6th Annual Fellowship Dinner which will be held October 18th.  Both of these are ways that you can help support WFCM financially, whether you attend or simply donate.  Our theme for this year's dinner is from Hebrews 13:16:

"And do not neglect doing good, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."

Be safe this summer, and may you be blessed!

Client Testimonial

Eight years ago Ana shared a concern with a Chantilly neighbor.  With more expenses after the birth of a third child, her family was struggling to buy food.  Ana remembers, "She said, 'Don't worry. I know a place to help.' And my friend told me about WFCM."

Western Fairfax Christian Ministries is now in its 26th year of serving clients in the Chantilly/Centreville/Fairfax area through a food pantry, emergency financial aid program, and a thrift store.  Ana was nervous to go for help, but her friend urged her to make an appointment and went along for the first counselor visit.  Ana received kind services and groceries, plus baby food and diapers for her youngest child.  Since that day in 2005, Ana goes nearly every month to WFCM for food, and has also benefited from vouchers for free clothing and furniture.

"Money is tight every month.  The food helps me a lot", says Ana, who picks out donated staples like bread, pasta, soups, rice, beans, canned vegetables, snacks for the kids school lunches, and hygiene products like shampoo and toothpaste.  Ana's husband has employment doing indoor construction work, and she works 40 hours a week as a night restaurant cashier, but their low hourly wages barely for rent and the basic needs of five.  "Winter gets a little scary.  In 2009 and 2010 he was out of work two to three months.  A VERY hard time," she recalls.

WFCM staff and volunteers do more than bag her pantry food.  "They help me and show me God's love," Ana shares.  "(They are) very nice and ask how I'm doing.  I feel comfortable talking even though my English is not so good."  She is thankful for a place to go for food and encouragement.
